The fact that so few people in my store know how to make signs has started becoming a problem. Only a few of us in pricing, as well as a few other people here and there in meat, produce, floral, and nutrition know how to make them. The problem is that when specials go on or off on the weekend, we get pulled from our department to make those signs since no one else knows how. Yesterday, our Receiver had to make a lot of signs for open house, and today I was pulled from Self-checkout to make and laminate about 50 wine signs because of a wine sale that ended today. That meant our bookkeeper had to take over self-checkout during that time, putting her behind, causing all of front-end's breaks to be behind, and causing other departments to get behind due to people having to be called up to the registers. We used to have a co-manager that helped out and made signs on the weekend, but all of our current managers refuse to. I'm not even sure if they know how to make signs.
I don't know if it's just me, but something seems wrong to me when something big like that falls on them just hoping that one of the few of us from pricing just happens to be scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday.
It's just frustrating because not only do I have to deal with being called up to the registers constantly when I'm in another department, I also have to deal with being asked to do pricing stuff as well. Schedule me for something like Drug/GM and you can bet at least 1/3rd of my shift will be running a register and making signs/making tags/changing prices of products.
scan coordinators are off usually during the weekend because price changes mostly happen during the weekdays. ALL the leads and back ups should know how to make signs for their department. If you are scheduled for self check out, that is YOUR job for the day. DO NOT let them push you around. You tell them you are scheduled as a u scan attendant that day, if they want signs, they can learn it themselves. Go to the union if you must. You don't get paid enough to deal with that crap.
