So how many of you are backups to the dept head and have to work a late shift?

It's a rule where I'm from (Delta Division) that all full-time employees must work at least one late shift per week. No exceptions. It is also preferred that the backup works opposite the department head. So if a backup works early, the department head works late and vice versa. Also, the department head and backup should not have the same days off together.

Backups should be working with their employees at night, in order to run a department i think you should know how all sides of it work and get to know all your employees better....

yeah this is apparently a rule in the central kentucky area too (I believe we're "Louisville Division"), but was never enforced until we got this new store manager. people who I'd only ever seen working 7a-3 I've been seeing there at like 7pm and I asked someone and was told this.... fortunately if you work only 2nd or 3rd shift they don't require you to work 1 1st shift a week... there's also a rule that if you're full time you have to have an open availability. I hope my store never starts enforcing that cause I would be ****ed.. I need that guaranteed same 10 hours I have off every day now to sleep... if I try to sleep at an irregular time I only sleep like 2 1/2 hours

In my area backups must work two opens, two closes and one mid-day shift each week. This meaning two 6-2s per week, one 10-6 or 1-9, and two 3-11s. Definitely the norm for all backups here.

You almost never see a dept head or backup after 3pm in our store... just one or two co-managers.

Not saying its right, but that's our situation.

I work 8-4 or 7-3 every day, so it doesn't affect me in the least, but it leaves our part time people that work evenings to their own devices without much direction or training, or... supervision.
