Free Friday Download
Permalink

Wondering how other stores handle this issue or if it is only an issue at my store.  We have several customers that have many Kroger plus cards and download the free Friday item then come in with 4 transactions to get 4 items free.  Another issue is they get rainchecks for items then try to use with multiple coupons.  Our store has a 5 like coupon policy and so we have to tell them they can't use the 10 they have for the same item in which they would be getting for almost free if not free.  The free Friday download seems to be the new thing for these coupon people to do.  It just seems very shady. From the service desk there are also people buying things with coupons then trying to return for full price.  On the bottom of receipt it only says "scanned coupon" so there is no way of checking what the coupon was for.

It is very frustrating and I wondered if anyone else has this issue.  Very tired of being yelled at and treated like an idiot when only trying to explain the stores policy.   I personally like the free Friday stuff and would hate to see it abused to the point they no longer offer it.

if you ever feel uncomfortable call your manager (not supervisor cuz they are brain dead half the time) downstairs to explain to the customer the policies. If your manager follows corporate policies then you should be all good.

On the Free Friday download site, it states one per household.  The store manager needs to be made aware that the are some customers using several Kroger cards and getting several Free Friday Downloads.  The store manager needs to decide what the policy is for your questions.  First ask the CSM how you are supposed to handle these transactions.  Ask the store manager only if the CSM doesn't know or isn't clear.

Loss Prevention should probably look into this.

I remember when they gave away the 12-pack Lipton tea bottles a little over two years ago. I watched families/groups split up, each with Kroger card and the tea on hand.

The store had a couple of pallets of that tea. They were all gone by Friday evening.

One item per HOUSEHOLD. I'd refuse to check them out and send them to guest care. And knowing our managers, they would probably throw them out of the store.

I know people will come to the service desk with several Free Friday download items and no receipt and try to return them.

As far as the coupons go, the coupon is paying for or towards the item so Kroger will get its money.  Yes there's a coupon limit, yes these people are shady and yes you'll goto into a flee market and see high theft items, free friday downloads and megaevent extreme couponer personal hygiene stuff for sale. I have low tolerance for these types of "customers" and even less for those who return half eaten food every few hours.

Kroger may get its money, but whoever makes the product might not be able to give its employees a living wage if they can't make a decent profit. I'll be damned if I let trailer trash live like a king while I suffer.
