I have worked as a grocery night stocker for nearly 1.5 years now. I started out making $8 an hour and knowing nothing, to now making $9 an hour ($9.5 in January) and doing pretty much everything a backup would do (putting up trucks for other departments, scanning holes, doing orders when the manager is off) on top of throwing truck and conditioning isles. This job has stressed me out to no end, especially this holiday season, and I honestly don't feel I am getting paid nearly enough for all the work I do. At the urging of a co-worker, in another department, I applied for a night stocker position at another grocery store and now it looks I will be working there late January/early February. Not only will I be getting full-time (vs this part-time 40 hour+ work weeks with Kroger), I will be getting paid more as well. Here's to hoping it all works out.
With Kroger, EVERYONE deserves better. But as long as the corporate level continues to ignore the little guys and gals who actually do all of the work, things are not going to change.
