That's not just Kroger, it's everywhere. I know a woman who I work with who works a second job (in retail). She only got 5 hours this week at that job.
When I was at Kroger, my hours after the holidays went from 28 (the max) to 12 (the bare minimum). I ended up picking up shifts just to at least get 19 hours.
Nt quite everywhere. They've been offering OT like it's candy where I work now, and I've taken the maximum simply because of the absurd stacking you can pull off. This entire week is considered a holiday (M-F), so any time worked on those days is considered holiday worked, which is at OT rates. And Ill be at 40 hours by Thursday, thanks to 10 hour shifts. And I also get holiday pay on top of that, so what I work M-F is basically double-time and a half. The way the company looks at it is if we keep the customers happy and coming back, it's worth the money for us to be happy.

You're right, it's not quite everywhere. My current job has a constant stream of 40-hour weeks. The thing is though...we're severely understaffed, so OT is almost inevitable, especially for management. Unlike your job though (and you just described my ideal situation for getting paid, by the way xD), there is no holiday pay. We get time and a half for doing over 40 hours. Nothing more. But 40 hours is better than the 12 that Kroger tried to stick me with.
Amen..I dont believe those who make the big money are going to really let loose of it. It is not just Kroger.....I believe is is American business in general.
