I don't have my handbook anymore so I can't really look it up. Anyways, i'm a very good worker and everyone in my department loves me. Today, I did something stupid and left an hour early because everything I needed to get done was done. After I clocked out, one of the customer service people asked me why I was leaving early and if I talked to management before leaving. I told them no and that I had everything done early.
As I was walking out of the store, I heard them page management but I didn't stay to see what happened after that.
Could I get fired for this as "job abandonment" or some ****? I'm really worried and almost scared to go into work tomorrow.
I've been working here about 2 years and was planning on working here until i'm done with College in another 2 years. Really hope I won't have to find another job, because I love the people I work with and like working here.
It's management's discretion. If they like you, you'll probably just get talked to and told to not do it again. If they're indifferent, maybe a write-up or SIR. Surely not fired though.
Yes, if they don't like you they could fire you for job abandonment and the union can't do anything about it. Always ask a member of management before leaving. You can always clock in early and punch out early as well. An example would be if you're 8 am to 4 pm you could clock in at 7:53 am and leave at 3:53 pm.

yeah how did they even know what time you were supposed to be leaving? But i wouldn't do that again.
They keep a master schedule up front to call people up to register. Its BS but yeah i'm not leaving early ever again lol. They havn't talked to me about it so maybe they won't.
Did it ever occur to you to check with your supervisor or a manager before you left? Say something like "I just finished all my work, is there anything else you need done?" The decision is up to management as to whether you leave early.
