FREE FROM THE BEAST!!!!!

Daz right-------------15 years of self-selected incarceration in the belly of retail's most loathsome, fetid seventh-level of hell demon breeder slave-whore master, WALMART, has very recently been put to a sugary sweet end. I finally got my ticket the hell OUT of.....well, hell!

But there's a point here that applies to y'all.

Never mind Walmart or Kroger. Forget the names; the game is the same, where ever you go in retail. Some of you reading this and who've been with Kroger long term know exactly where I'm going with this. RETAIL HAS CHANGED. Where it was once the ideal career for any one not suited for college or military or factories, and you could seriously support yourself and a family on a modest---but realistically attainable--- income, now it's become SO stingy and greedy and self-centered that it's truly best suited for two groups of people:

Students. And retirees.

But that only describes a small pie piece of the nation's demographics, and meanwhile there's still a LOT of people needing to pay their bills. Soooo.....what's the answer here? I'll do my best in answering that....but you're prolly not gonna like it.

Assuming college is out of the question (and let's face it, college is NOT the winning lottery ticket it used to be, folks) ......

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES. Trucking. Plumbing. HVAC, welding; CNA, hair stylist, cosmotology, etc. etc. Many of these programs have funding programs available, or are so cheap you can scrape up the $$ yourself. And they pay not too shabby.

MILITARY. You youngins, anywhere before age 35, mostly qualify for this..........and war is ALWAYS gonna be a wide open market. Just sayin'.

SELF BUSINESS. This one's tricky, and I can't/won't say too much as to what/how to advise. Let's leave it that, if you use your imagination, there will always be some market niche, some need or another, that you can fill and provide for. The rest is up to you. But, whatever you decide on..............

GET OUT OF THE BELLY OF THE BEAST!!!! biggrin smile blankstare

In some cases I wouldn't even say it's suitable for students.

I'm aiming for the third option, but I'm going back to school to help along with it (the field I'm going into doesn't need more than a certificate for a foot in the door, but I'm going for my Associates to help my chances). I'm getting to that point in my health where it's no longer worth going into retail or food service.

Good for you, working to better yourself! I know it's not easy------but what worthwhile ever is, right?

And I know what you mean about health meets retail. Man oh man.......I got soooo many life-time battle trophies to take to the grave. People who don't know what we go through.....well, they just don't know. no

I am the poster who left after 4 months and that is what I am going to do. Only I am going to diversify and do an Ebay store, some contract floral delivery, and try to start a pet sitting biz. Any day of failure in any of these is better than a ''good'' day at Kroger. It doesn't take much to figure out a way to bring in 150-200 dollars a week, which is what I made at Kroger for 6 days a week of hard labor and no personal life. FREEDOM is sweet!

Kroger is only good for children, retards, and burnouts, but I'm not sure about retirees.  They hired an elderly stroke victim for the grocery department.  It was just sad to see him shuffle around the store.

Once you are past age 18, working for Kroger is a serious life mistake.

It's terrible for students since Kroger will not work with anyone on scheduling.  It sucks when they schedule me during class.  I kept waiting for that attendance write up, but it never came.  Another semester, I almost (and should have) failed a class since they heaped on overtime.

Hmm . . . an empowerment/liberation thread.  Not bad.

"Absolutely true," confirmed the four or more degreed clerks at one 100-person store.

(The history major can write one hell of a grievance, though.)
