Should night shift be paid more?

Like, everybody that works it: the stockers, the pharmacy guy, the cashiers up front in EBT hell and reshop avenue. Night shift stockers seem to have the most crap to shelve, the pharmacy guy gets all the people that for whatever reason can't get their meds at normal hours and the front end, well, it sucks especially at a 24/7 store. At my store the people on nights are trying to move but nobody else wants to switch and I occasionally cover for the cashier.

In my area you get paid 50 cents more per hour worked between 10p and 6a.  and if you consistently work at least 20.25 hours between 10 and 6 then you get the 50 cent bonus for all your hours, even those not between 10 and 6.  It's a nice little 80 dollars more a month for me, and I prefer working nights anyway.

It probably works different where you are- I read on here someone someplace gets a dollar more per every night hour, so it wouldn't surprise me if some places don't do any night premium.

In the area covered by local 75, you get an extra dollar an hour between 10p-6am for night premium. So you're right, each contract must be different.

Never got anything but an extra 1 dollar on Sunday. And that was NOT an extra dollar an hour. It was just an extra dollar that day. Cheapskates.

Frankly I think anyone working past 5pm should get least a buck more and hr or maybe more.. I'm tired of people with seniority getting all the best shifts and perks, least give us poor ****s on the bottom of the dick pole.

Right. At my store, there is the "night premium" but like someone said 40 more dollars compared to $1+/hr is a huge difference. A buddy said he's been with the company for 10 years and still only makes $9/hr. It just seems like the workload doesn't equal the payment compared to day stockers, etc. Regarding seniority, yes it's annoying. I see both sides, but I strongly dislike working 3-11s because they ruin the whole day.

It's one reason they can't keep any new hires. They always go on the night shift.
Older workers that they want to get rid of go there too. They want them to quit before they retire and cost the company a pension.

How sad.  The employees with seniority were probably once in your place and had to wait their turn.  Of course YOU shouldn't have to wait!  Tell them!

You may be on my contract, because that's ours.   What they don't mention is that any position with a premium(dept head/lead/backup) is excluded from the all hours clause.   Our clerks have the premium included in their pay, but ours is still strictly hours worked between 10-6.   It sucks.  I probably lose out on 30-40$ a month because of it.

I thought you got to keep a certain portion of it after you are vested.

You forget this is the generation of people who think they are entitled to everything whether they've earned it or not.

first of all, i am not from this generation... i'm close to 50, life ain't easy, **** happens so i am working at this ****e hole called kroger. but i can tell you why kroger can't pay much more, a$$holes who won't work cause they think they been there long enough to put it off on the newer folks... this is what i have seen and why they can't keep a great deal of new hires. who wants to bust their a$$ while others go more than a few breaks and sit in the back on a pc most their shift earning up to 14, 18 an hr? who?  the day the union is kicked out the day i will laugh, even if it costs me my job for being to old or something, cause i am to old  to do the work of some lazy ass union ****. don't worry, min i get something, hell even scrubbing toilets with a toothbrush would pay more and be more rewarding, i am gone.. i come from the generation you worked for your money, you got to the top by work, not sitting around waiting for 'your turn'..lol.
