Like, literally, evil. At least that's what a highly upset elderly lady told me (and to my absolute delight, our store manager!). Apparently having a chip/EMV on your payment card is the mark of the beast, and she'd "rather starve" (also, she forgot her checkbook).

I just made a similar post to this; yes, currency and payment means has definitely shifted. Old people are always the first and worst victims of this.......although THANK GOD freakin checks have gone the way of Tupac biggrin

Alot of these people also fail to realize this isn't JUST a Kroger thing. It's your bank. If you wanna bitch at anyone go bitch at them.

I just don't see what all the fuss is about.  You either punch in a 4 to 6 digit pin#, or you fumble around trying to find that fake pen, then sign which is really about the same amount of "hassle".

I would just smile and tell the customers "you should call the 800# on the back of your card and talk to the bank about it".

If you instruct the customer to insert and remove their chip about 3 or 4 times it will allow them to slide instead and then have them hit the enter button, for credit.

This is the trick I've been using.

And they don't cuss you out for having to go through the trouble?

Sure, some of them do. But the alternative is not getting their groceries.
