Do cashiers make more than baggers ?

I'm a bagger and for the second week in a row they have me working as a cashier. If this keeps up, shouldn't I get more money?

for my district there's a ten cent raise or cashiers thou unless they make you a cashier full time in stead of a bagger who just does it when needed you might

not get the raise or only get it whyll your working the cash register you probably need to ask your union rep for advice becoues things like this have defront rules per

area.

Yes, you should. Cashiers are on a different pay scale than baggers. They are taking advantage of you by having you basically work as a cashier for bagger pay. You won't make that much more money as a cashier, but you still have that money coming as well as future raises. If you're in the union, get with your union steward or rep right away. If you don't speak up/take action, then this greedy and dishonest company will continue to have you performing tasks that pay a higher way per union contract rules for the lowest pay in the store. Kroger doesn't want to schedule sufficient cashier coverage, so the company tries to get away with throwing baggers on registers because that allows the company to hoard even more money. I've seen it happen time and again and time and again the union comes down hard on management when word gets out, and the store is required to pay up the money it cheated the bagger out of.  It's best to speak up now before this goes on for too long.

Please be one or the other...I know alot of it is the stores fault. But there is nothing worse than everytime they think they need help having someone who knows how to do both but is scheduled to bag open a register creating one less bagger and more work on the poor bagger left...

Thanks for the answers! I will ask directly tomorrow. I did not choose to be a cashier, they didn't even ask me either, they just wrote me in as cashier on the schedule. It states in our contract we can't refuse to do whatever they ask us to. I would never choose to be a cashier as you're chained to the register. Also I have to fight for each break, and what's up with not being able to go home when your shift is done because you have to "wait for your relief" ????

CCs are not allowed to run a register in our District.  Under miscellaneous notes in the Union handbook.

Both CCs and Cashiers start out at the same payrate.  Both get a dime raise after 6 months.  A CC does not get anymore raises while the Cashiers do.  A CC does not get a vacation while cashiers do.

File a grievance.  Either they make you a cashier officially or leave you as a CC.

It depends what you're coded as. If you're a CC and do not get raises then yes. If you're coded as a clerk then no. Check the ExpressHR site to see what you're coded as.

One measly dime? I feel for the cc's I understand why they will not do any more than they are asked. Why should they for one lousy dime? When I was a cc they wanted me to do cashier work from time to time. ALWAYS keeping me at cc pay. EVEN THOUGH I mentioned it. Well i spoke to the union and it got fixed. My schedule went "funny" for a week but i couldnt prove it. (Beofre reset .my availability)

Yes one measly dime as you put it. It could be NO measly anything...you just stay at your fixed rate of pay until the next contract, IF courtesy clerks are even considered. Remember... courtesy clerk is a STARTING POSITION. Meaning ALL debts are ABOVE you. Why not get promoted that way you won't have to worry about the "measly" dime?

With the recently approved Local 1996 Atlanta contract, cashiers start out at $12/hr and baggers $10/hr

No no no.

Contracts are functionally secret because the store doesn't want you to know your rights and the union doesn't want to represent you.

Prove me wrong.  Link to your local union contract.
