Question About Kroger Disciplinary Actions
Permalink

Hello, I have a question dealing with Kroger's disciplinary actions when it comes to call ins and walking off the job without telling management. Note - This is for a friend of mine.

My friend has been employed with Kroger for almost two years now. They are in the grocery department. Started off as a courtesy clerk and got promoted to grocery in under a year.

Within the past 90 days, they had 3 call ins. This resulted in a 90 day probation. Calling off (either 1 or 2 more times, I am not sure) within that 90 day probation would cause them a 3 day suspension. Well, they ended up calling off once more within that probation period because of personal issue.

However, no action was taken. Nothing was said from management.

But now recently, they punched out way before their shift ended and walked off the job without notifying management or a supervisor. They will not tell me the reason why but they were highly upset.

Later on they contacted management to know what action would be taken due to them walking off. The manager went from speaking of a 3 day suspension with advisable discharge(along with writing a CAR/COR not sure which letters were used or what they mean), to saying they can either resign or contact their union rep. to file a grievance.

Before the 3 call offs within a 90 day period, they have never received a write up, verbal warning, had perfect attendance. I guess they are going through whatever personal issues right now. Although they are aware that personal matters shouldn't interfere with your job.

Unfortunate thing is that this manager is fairly new and has only been at their store for a few weeks. So it is leaving a bad impression.

Due to the call offs combined with the walk off (the walk off being the major one), exactly what disciplinary actions will be taken?

if he never recieved a verbal or written he could get it thrown out. The leaving early is considered job abandonment, which is grounds for termination.
