Kroger Training (Hands On)

So I was hired as a Courtesy Clerk a few weeks ago. I've completed my online training lessons and attended Orientation. HR told me my first day is tomorrow which will consist of being paired with another employee to train with.

The Main Issue I have is they never gave me a uniform, therefore don't know what to where. Any advice?

Also, what does the training consist of? Is the training good and will prepare me? What do you do?

Thanks for any advice, anyone may have.

Congrats! Good luck!

You will do fine.  If you are here in a forum not affiliated with Kroger trying to get some insight, it means you care about what is going in.  You will succeed at everything you do in life if you care about what is going on.

Don't share too much about yourself with coworkers until you get to know them a while.  It helps to avoid drama later.  You will know the good workers vs the bad workers after about 2 weeks.  Learn from the good workers.  After a month, you will know enough to get by.  Don't get stressed.

They will give you a shirt and maybe apron tomorrow when you show up.

Wear comfortable pants.  We are allowed to wear blue jeans.  Most stores expect you to wear black pants but not jeans.  Some stores allow shorts during the summer.  Wear whatever is comfortable and play dumb if they tell you that you were supposed to wear such and such.  They will let you know what kind of pants/shorts are acceptable when you show up and probably let you slide for the first day.

Training might last a the whole shift and might last 15 minutes.

Our CCs bag groceries, do carry outs, refill check stands with paper and plastic bags, upkeep the bottle room(if your state does the bottle deposit),clean bathrooms, take out trash, collect carts, do go backs, assist customers on finding products and do a quick sweep of the store every few hours.  Your store might have a Utility clerk that does all the cleaning.

I suggest you go in 15 minutes early and walk the store.  Get familiar with where all the products are.  There might be a map near the door in a basket that lists what is in each aisle.  Or, ask the Customer Service person for one.

Generally, the aisles are set up like this:

Canned veggies, beans and fruit, soup, tuna, dry beans and rice, gravy.

Pasta, pasta sauce, condiments, international foods.

Bake aisle- cake mixes and misc ingredients.  The ice cream toppings and cones might be in that aisle.  Good to know where these are.

Cereal aisle, oatmeal, pancake mixes, syrup, pop tarts, granola bars, and mostly school lunch type drinks(capri sun) and snacks.

Chips, cookies, crackers, popcorn, pringles.

Large volume drinks-water, pop, and juice.

Soap aisle with cleaning supplies and laundry supplies.

Petfood aisle.

Paper towel, toilet paper, cups, paper plateas and trashbag aisle.  Toothepicks should be in this aisle.  If you know where the toothepickes are, customers will love you.  They are usually next to the napkins.  If you blink, you will miss them.

Produce area with a speacialty natures market(organic) grocery section.  Organic items are also scattered thru out the store.

Frozen area.

Dairy area.

Deli.

Bakery.

Wine, liquor beer(if your store has the license).

Meat and Seafood Department.

Bread aisle.

Drug/GM merchandise.  Soap, shampoos, diapers, deoderants, etc.  Lot of stuff in small area.

You will be shown the backroom.  Where cardboard goes and where trash goes.  Please don't leave empty shopping carts in the backroom or near the trash compactor.  If you ever have spare time, collect empty shopping carts that are scattered in the backroom.  Not on your first day tho.  I will give you compliments if I ever catch you retrieving them.  I get 7 minutes a week to clean up the backroom.  I usually spend 5 minutes a night collecting shopping carts when I come in at night.  Last night I saw a CC bring a shopping cart with plastic plastic grocery bags she didn't need when refilling bags.  She was 3' from where they are stored, left the cart and walked away.  Damn!  I just cleaned all the empty carts out of my way so I could work!!

PS.  I forgot to mention.  Sunday is usually the busiest shopping day at most stores.

Don't panic...  Go with the flow and be prepared to rock and roll.

Post back after work if you think about it.

There are a few CCs that post here that can give you good pointers.
