Today I was looking at my employee file, shredding old paperwork we don't need. (Cabinet left open for me to clear out old papers.) I found all my past write ups both store copies and "employer copies" plus one from six months ago today. Into the shredder they went. Now it's like I have had no write ups whatsoever. A clean file. I went home and told my uncle what I did and he got pissed. He said that if management finds out consider myself done. My thinking is if I left no trail they can't do anything. Management only accesses employee files to put SIRS (shredded those too), write ups, and safety paperwork. no write ups mean I'm "clean."
With all copied of write ups and SIRS shredded there's NO WAY whatsoever they can find out it was me right?
After all... Write ups expire in six months so what's the big deal?
You were entrusted to shred sensitive paperwork. You decided to shred your paperwork out of a selfish act. If you can't be trusted with sensitive paperwork, then you can't be trusted with money or anything else. Trust and Integrity are important qualities to have in life wherever you work. They define who you are as an employee.
All I can say is don't tell anyone else ever. They will snitch on you because you didn't shred their write-ups too. Also, hope there are not high quality cameras where you were at. Don't think or say anything else about it. If you are caught, you could very well be fired on the spot. If Kroger was smart, they would have backed up the paper copies on a hard drive somewhere.
Now that you think you have a clean slate, now would be a good time to stay out of trouble.
Smh. That is why you should NEVER let an employee shred sensitive paperwork unsupervised. At our store the ONLY way employees have "accesses" (VERY limited) to their file is if to update information. EVEN THEN management will put the updated information into the files themselves. Employees NEVER have access to their own files. Too many write ups "go missing."
With that said, our manager makes several copies of the write up. One in employee file, one for himself, and a few back ups via hard drive. That way if one copy goes "missing" there are copies to take its place. Plus if you're caught getting rid of a write up, no matter how old it is, even if it's your own, you are outta there.
although what i think you did is awesome, if management finds out they may still try to fire you, but without proof like camera evidence, and if you dont confess, they would at least have to pay you unemployment. so keep your mouth shut and never incriminate yourself.
What kind of moron shreds his write ups then goes home & blabs about it. You were maybe fine with chucking the papers. But can't you keep it to yourself? Damn
OP figures family won't "snitch" and he's right in that thought. HOWEVER... Keeping it to oneself is the best course of action. After blabbing it on here whose to know who works at your store hmm?? And especially if others know you were shredding old paperwork having seen you toss it into the shredder? Employees can have "loose lips" and bye bye job.
