oh god....that ad....talk about the bane of my existence. every 5 damn minutes....WHOOOOOOOOOOOOAH NABISCO!!!....what a god-awful jingle that makes me wonder how the people who god paid for singing those 2 seconds of blasphemy felt when they realized us employees have to endure the torture? as if the christmas music wasn't enough, our ears have to be pummeled by gems such as the nabisco commercial, avocados from mexico, santa's little yelpers, that stupid wine commercial, and others i can't recall, but you know what they are, we all do..... the only solace i can find is that december is at an end, the christmas music will end, and eventually the nabisco commercial will be canned. although, i have anxiety for the next wave of crappy radio ads......great jobs for competitive wages, my a$$!

IN-Store Audio Network...............the company who does the radio music for Kroger (not sure if they actually record those commercials or have someone else do it for them??) .  Write and tell them how you feel!

At least now I know I'm not the only one that is sick to death of that nabisco commercial.........I started the other thread on the Nabisco ad a few weeks ago.......just use the SEARCH box with "NABISCO", the one about it driving me CRAZY!!

I do enjoy the HALLMARK commercial, only because there are a few seconds of a beautiful, classy piano rendition of Auld Lang Syne (sp?) chording in the background, but you can barely hear it.

Personally, I don't mind the Christmas music this year (a number of different songs played that weren't heard last year which is surprising) but the Christmas song list is still very small.......the same complaint I have voiced in previous rants about the 'regular' intercom music........... so many songs and artists are "blacklisted" by the In-Store Audio Network. I assume it is because of royalties/rights/residuals/airplay contracts (???) but it also seems like just a personal dislike against certain performers.  I just don't know.

"Our products are so lame, we have to bribe you to buy them" just doesn't strike me as a good marketing strategy.

Oreos and Ritz Crackers. Geez, Nabisco, take your money and shut up. I will never buy your products again, and I love them.

Someone tell us how to 1) turn the volume down, and/or 2) change the music mix. Both of these things can be done in-store, in the locked Holy-of-Holies room, reportedly.

There are volume control knobs located around the store.  They're a simple dial with the numbers 1-10 on them.  Look for them on posts or in prep rooms.

never heard it at our store. You must be getting a different "mix" than we do.  One of my main gripes is that there are a bunch of songs they insist on playing WAAAAAAY TOO OFTEN, and they have been playing them too much, consistently for 3 years (at least). Here are just a few I am so sick of I can hardly take it anymore:

Afternoon Delight (Starland Vocal band)

Heart of Glass (Blondie)

Rapture (Blondie)

The night the lights went out in Georgia (Vicki Lawrence........yes that is Mama of MAMA'S FAMILY who sings that one!)

These Dreams (Heart)

The Night Chicago Died (Paper Lace)

Manic Monday (Bangles)

Morning Train (Sheena Easton)

Island Girl (Elton John... one of his worst songs, with a terrible, jerky, jumpy melody)

Fly, Robin, Fly (Silver Convention)

Angie baby (Helen Reddy)

Jungle Love (Steve Miller Band)

My Sharona (The Knack) I hate that song!

Hot Stuff (Donna Summer)

I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)

On & On (Stephen bishop) this song goes on and on too long. I hated that song when it first came out, and I still hate it.

Young Hearts Run Free (Candi Staton)  .....nice song but why don't they play some of her other stuff???

One More Night (Phil Collins)

Sunset Grill (Don Henley)  Why in the heck do they play this so often, but maybe only one , if any, of the great classic "EAGLES" songs???????

Kiss on my list (Daryl Hall & John Oates)

Freeway of Love (the 'Pink Cadillac' song) Aretha Franklin

and a lot of others that I don't know the names of (many are poorly written, with awful  melodies, with trite hackneyed phrases repeated over and over like the writer was actually a second grader who scribbled the words to the song on the back of their school test paper. )

there are GOBS of oldies out there, why do we have to hear the same (relatively) few oldies songs from the '70s, and '80s so often?

Now, anyone who has a reference book (or can search the web in a few seconds time) listing the top 100 hit songs of each year over the last several decades can easily see that there are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of "oldies" that Kroger's music service REFUSES to play even one time, but we hear these same old tired stale oldies played until it gets to the point that you can hear a faint intro note and immediately you just know you've heard it a thousand times before. STALE STALE STALE!!!  Of course some of the customers think it is WONDERFUL and you can hear them humming and whistling along while shopping the aisles. They may not realize they WE, the employees, have heard that same stale song hundreds of times and it is getting OLD OLD OLD!!

End of rant. Thank you for reading!

BUT, that doesn't change the actual "MIX". If there is a way to change the "MIX", it seems to be Classified Information.  At our store, the same tripe (with some very gradual changes, like a "new" song is added once every week or two) has been playing for years.  The upper management seems to be blissfully happy with the mix that is played.

In our store, I'm aware of only a single master volume control on the PA control panel in the computer cage. (Actually, it looks like a screwdriver slot cut directly into the shaft on a pot.) Sometimes the cage is locked, and we can't turn things down; other times we can get to it and turn it down if our store closes for the night (say the cashier calls in).

It didn't say it did.  the one post asked how to 1) turn down the volume OR 2) change the music mix.  The response answered number 1.

And of course there is absolutely nothing whatsoever that can be done about the lame counter productive marketing crapola. No matter the music mix, there is no alternate marketing mix.

Oh god, the many different versions of the Christmas Whore (Santa Baby/Hurry down the chimney) grated on my nerves like nothing else. I can block the music out most of the time, but that song just enraged me while I slogged through stocking the shelves (night stock)
