I did not know Bag Boy was a thief. He is one of the main posters at this forum.

That is weird! Why would it take them 8 months to catch that? You think they would catch it faster sense it's costing kroger money

because loss prevention isn't perfect. they don't have the time or manpower to have the cameras watched 24/7, as they usually record footage to review when there's a tip off to someone stealing. stealing from your place of work has to be the most brain-dead thing anyone can pursue and you will absolutely get caught, it's just a matter of time.

Loss Prevention??    HA!!      If anyone is familiar with the old, hard-of-hearing bank "security guard" that is usually half-asleep in an episode of  The Andy Griffith Show, our security person might be just a slight step above him.

We are robbed blind, night and day, and very little is done about it.

If Kroger had any sense, they would start the implementation of new signs to be posted at ALL stores, such as "Dear customers, be aware that we have security cameras in place in this store, and shoplifting is a CRIME punishable by large fines and imprisonment. We reserve the right to stop any customers and examine their bags if we strongly suspect them of stealing. Prices will drop in the long run if we are able to reduce shoplifting rates".

Yeah, I know very well that many people will whine and say "but that sounds so MEAN, it is profiling, it sounds so discriminatory".

SO WHAT?  BILLIONS OF DOLLARS worth of product is stolen each year by people who have no conscience, no morals, no guilt, no decency. As a direct result of their thievery, the prices at grocery stores around the country are much higher for ALL OF US than they would be if EVERY SINGLE PERSON WAS HONEST!!!

You might say "that will insult alot of our customers, so they will get mad and go shop somewhere else". Baloney!   If ALL of the supermarket and dept store chains in the US put up this same notice, and meant it, there would be a definite drop in shoplifting, and related problems like gobs of carts piled with go-backs.

The honest customers we value will have nothing to worry about. Only the dishonest ones.

That's exactly why they won't do it. Kroger would be protested and boycotted for something like that, and if you pay attention to Kroger's marketing, they make their stores out to be the most absolutely friendliest, welcoming places on earth to do your grocery shopping. Them putting signs up like that would tarnish their image and ruin their branding as soon as it got started trending on Twitter.

Also just want to point out that I find it hypocritical for Kroger to place such a high value on customer satisfaction and making all of their employees be over the top friendly while only paying not even $9/hr for labor. F them.

Yep my store is terrible on shoplifting lately as well. But we aren't allowed to check bags or ask for receipts because it'll "upset the people who've lived there for years" and they "feel as if it's their store". Well then they need to help us kick the trash out before their store gets shut down.

I saw a female shoplifter walk out and one of our clerks went to get the plate number on their car only to have this female knock the cell out of the employees hands and give her a shove. Well, employee flat out decked the shoplifter right in the face. Grabbed her phone took the pic, grabbed items and went back into the store leaving the shoplifter trying to get to her feet to tend to her bloody nose. Best thing I ever saw. Shoplifting NEEDS TO STOP AND STOP NOW!

I can sympathize with people that steal food or medicine in life or death situations... even though it's still wrong on some level, I can at least understand their reasons for taking extreme actions.

People that still "luxury" items or nonessentials like beer or jewelry or electronics? No sympathy, whatsoever. Such people deserve to be locked up. If it's a mental illness, I'm all for getting people the help they need, but if there's no mental illness present, straight to jail is where I'd send them.

As for LP sometimes not catching on at Kroger for seemingly months on end... well, as others have basically said, Kroger doesn't exactly invest heavily in counteracting theft. When it comes to customers, Kroger is especially careful because accusing the wrong one can really blow up badly. With employees, Kroger isn't so hesitant to pull the trigger, but... as I said, LP doesn't typically have a very big presence in most stores and while it's true cameras are everywhere, most of the time, nobody is even watching them and they usually only get checked when there's an incident or strong suspicion.

Obviously meant to type "steal" and not "still" but oh well.

Shoplifting is out of control at our store but it is customers and not employees who are doing it
