Treatment

I am just wondering if other Kroger stores treat there night grocery crew like we get treated. In the union the don't seem to do anything except take our money. I have been with the company for almost a year & in that year all I have heard is how much a worthless worker I am. That no matter how much we do it's never good enough. This is coming from a store that has went through several store managers since my time with the company. They short staff us every night for the trucks & when they do staff a full crew the want more done that cannot be done in the time frame we all work.

So my main question is, do other employees get treated this way at other Kroger stores. I work 3rd shift & give my all every night I go to work. Mainly we have only 4-5 people doing the work of 10, I also hate the black & white print out hours the project for there night grocery crew to do these trucks in. I am just wondering how grocery night crew is done at other Kroger stores, cause I know it's done like it should be nothing like how this old ass store has to do it. I also love the negativity that we get as a crew. All we hear is not how we did a good job it's how we still screwed up & didn't to enough every time. It's like no matter what we do, we cannot ever do good enough for this management.

Also how do the trucks come in at other stores, our pallets are all messed up with several isles pilled upon each other, we have no U-boat carts, or really any other carts to help aid us in running freight. All I know is I have never worked for a company that makes me feel like I am useless, like nothing I do is good enough, or the hard work others in my crew do isn't good enough. We try to tell them that it's harder to run freight when you don't have the proper equipment to do your job to the company guidelines.

It's the same thing for my night crew. Nothing is good enough for the manager. I'm alwlays short staffed. And now she is demanding the active carts are worked before starting on the truck. And for the life of me I can never see any evidence of what the day crew does with their hours. Our pallets come in mixed also. Supposedly the warehOuse is working the problem. But it hasn't gotten to our division yet.

What state are you in?  Do you have double truck nights?

We switched to a new in state warehouse in November and the pallets are worse than kmp.  14 pallets will have something from every aisle on each pallet.  I swear the mispicks are 20%.

I am a night manager and my crew and I are treated very well by our store managers.

I am guessing you are talking about the DDP. I have a full crew but some like to call in on the worst days.  The times are tight but doable if you have a crew that all pull their weight.  Of course, not all of mine do so I do make comments to encourage them to pick up the pace.  I am not there to make friends, I am there to get shet done.

DDP only shows the time for running stock.

Over those hours, I am given 10 hours to condition, 4 hours to order, 2 hours to receive.  We run Nutrition which is an extra 6 hours.

I finally convinced my store managers that I need 4 hours to sort kmp and 4 hours to sort grocery.  We have enough Uboats to break down both trucks at the same time.

I recommend your store break down kmp onto pallets to the point that the pallets are manageable to work directly off of.  Pop, juice and water are probably the only pallets we do not need to sort thru too much for grocery.  Your store needs to either spot grocery or sort onto pallets.  We run off of Uboats.  I know of one store that spots everything.  Spotting might work well with kmp too.

I look up kmp and grocery on ISP, add them together(minus pallets of water and bulk pallets) and then divide by 50.  That is about how long it will take to run the trucks.

Well, at my store we get trucks called Payton & then regular grocery. Most of the time the grocery truck will be there then Payton will show up a few hours into pulling the grocery truck. I am not sure that our managers are figuring in those extra times like you stated for nutrition etc. We at most have 1-2 old flip top brown carts to run our freight. All I know is I have been there for about a year & I have never been told good job or anything, all we get is wrote up cause we didn't get both trucks done. Even though the Payton truck is really scheduled to be ran the next night, we did get the grocery finished but for the amount of personal we had that night they where stating we didn't do enough. Even nights that we think we done great all we hear is we could have done more. I do agree with some of the statement about the trucks coming in with almost every isle stacked on them. Our store wants 55+ cases a hour I am sure it's the same at other Kroger's but the way we currently do the break down & running of the truck there is no way we can even come close to that number.

I also asked for a union rep when getting this last CAR write up & they told me that since my department leader was in the union that she can witness the write up. I used to be a union rep at a factory, & I know that all shifts are to have a Union rep but 3rd doesn't. I also feel that they don't want the union involved, that's why we keep getting threatened write ups for everything we do. I get upset when I come in on a Saturday morning with my mother & see day shift standing around doing nothing, managers laughing & talking with them, not saying anything to them doing nothing, I think this is because of the strong Union presents on the day shifts. I have never heard that I pay a union to represent myself in work related matters.

I just am getting tired of coming into work every night & giving my all even with some health issues, I try to work as hard as I can but it never seems to be good enough. I also believe that if they would drop all the negativity we would be a better crew, but since I have been there we have went through well over 6-7 grocery night crew workers & I haven't been there that long. That is a way to high overturn rate for a grocery store. Well thanks all for the comments, please keep them coming.

Who is initiating the write-ups?  The night manager or the store manager?

When people on my crew get a write up for attendance, I am the witness.  They never sign them so they can fight them later if they are unwarranted.

Never ever sign a write-up.  Tell the store manager to put "refused to sign" on it. Then, call your District union rep to fight it the next day.  Do not use the shop steward in the store. They might be a manager pet.  My district rep said the managers can't write us up for not getting work done.  Your contract may be different if you are in a different state.

Most work gets done overnight at all the jobs I have ever had.  Yes, day crews always seem to be slackers.

Peyton is also called KMP.  I have never been able to find a DDP for Nutrition and know it is not added to our DDPs.  We do not run the blue totes.  DDP expects 45 cases an hour for KMP but that does not give time to sort it.

Grocery DDP expects 60 cases an hour and doesn't give time to sort.  This is based on running directly off of pallets which is impossible currently.

Or, another way to time it is condition and run 40 cases an hour.  This only works in the canned aisle, condiment aisle, cereal and bake aisle.  Doesn't always work well in other aisles.  Doesn't work well when there are less that 60 cases in the aisles.  Our heaviest aisle last night was cereal, pbj and granola bar aisle with 400+ cases.  The girl who ran it only needed a little help at the end.

I am going to try and send a private message after I log in.  I am curious what state and store you are at.

Well yeah my dumbass signed the write up, next time I won't no matter what they say. I did it cause there is no union steward on 3rd shift & management gave me a BS story about since my leader was in the union she could be our rep. I said BS, she is getting wrote up for the same infraction that is bias. She cannot rep me while getting charged for the same infraction.
I have contacted our union president but haven't heard anything as of yet but a small reply about filing a grievance then nothing. It seems that once again I am paying money to a Union that will do nothing. Also I usually get off at 7-8 am in the morning but most of the time the head union guy on 1st doesn't come in till 9 am or later. So I have to wait around & most times when I do it's his day off or he is busy with customers & don't have time to talk to me. It's starting to piss me off. I feel like management tries to force labor on us, that there 1st & 2nd shift personal are untouchable. They can leave freight in the isles, leave the backroom a mess but if we do it's a write up.
