Forced Overnight Overtime

Well... I enjoy overtime! On my own terms.
Store manager is expecting the night crew to complete putting the trucks away and then conditioning the grocery section, before we leave.
I understand this, but she is known to chant about reducing overtime. So... do we stay over or leave on time?

Friday we left on time, half of a pallet of truck left with a whole weekend to put it away.
Because of that pallet we (all 3 of us) got wrote up for bad job performance.

Our new instructions are to stay until it is done. By 4 am I am ready to go home, can she make us stay over just to complete our tasks?


On another note, I have worked here for a long time, so it is my number one job on my resume.
I have a feeling she might be scaring my other job options away by telling them of my "poor job performance".

I do what I am supposed to by instruction, and I am fast enough stocking. But! Unless you are going above an beyond (which is her daily expectation)
you are considered a poor worker.
Is there anyway to protect myself of this?

Any insight?

You need to direct this question to your shop steward in the store or you District Union representative.  What state are you in?

On my contract, we can't be written up for job performance.  Do not sign write-ups and call the District union rep the next day to have it removed from your file and torn up.  My Union District rep would jump all over a store manager that gives write-ups for that.  I hope that hasn't changed with the contract we are voting on...

As for mandatory OT, that depends on your contract.  On my contract, the store manager can mandatorily force clerks to stay over for 2 hours after their scheduled shift.  But, they need to give them a 1 hour notice before the end of their shift.  You were told to stay and get the truck done.  That is your warning to stay.  If you leave, it is called job abandonment and you can be terminated.

I am a night grocery manager. I do not like forcing my crew to stay over but the truck needs to be done.  If I know we are short handed, I will tell everyone at the beginning of the night.  When I was a part time clerk, I took all the OT they would give me.  I do not understand why people don't like OT.

3 people at night must be a small store for 8 hour shifts each.  One to condition and 2 to run stock of about 600-800 cases.  That does not leave any time for receiving or filling water gallons, etc.
