Do they cut your hours for requesting a day off?

I just noticed that I gave a, 2 weeks in advance request, for a day off (for a doctors app.) over a month ago. I gave another one about 2 weeks ago (an MRI app.). Both times they cut my hours a week after that requested day off. I had to put in another request for the 21st of this month (app. with a surgeon). When I make my requests, they are for good reason.  I don't call in or show up late and I make sure the request is in 2 weeks or more before the date. I just found out I have a cancerous cell, that needs to be taken care of, and I'm making sure that my doctors schedule me in advance, so that I don't have to call in, to work, on a day I'm scheduled. Do you get punished for needing a day off for important Doctors appointments?

Not 100% sure if they do that legitimately or not. Although a friend of mine that is in Deli at our store, said she had noticed she hasn't been getting as much time in our sandwich shop any more. And was wondering if it was do to her having too many days requested off. But for her it's either been medical or family health stuff that has been pulling her away.

So although I know they may say they aren't cutting her hours or anything official like that. I still think at times there could be an underlying factor of something going on. Which may be the case for you as well.

I hope not, but you just never know, as I doubt anybody would ever really admit to anything like that. Even if you feel like or can tell something is going on. Although I wonder if there is a back up manager you can talk to about it. Or maybe the person that does the scheduling maybe? As I know, when I was asked to switch days off with our lovely back up decorator as she had even more excuses about not being able to work her hours, she had went upstairs to I guess the scheduler or whomever keeps a running tally of how many hours we get a week. And said with me covering for her, it would bump me up to 40 hours that week(which they had a mini wig out about that), and asked if I would be fine with it(I'm barely seeing 30 hrs. so why would I have a problem?). And maybe that person could let you know if there is a trend going on when they schedule your hours.

Hopefully you can figure it out though. As it sounds pretty ****ty they are doing that to you in the first place.

Unfortunately, there is no way of you truly knowing. It's relatively easy to add/delete/change a person's schedule through the schedule writing software, so if a department head wishes to silently punish an employee, he/she can just "tweak" his/her schedule the following week and back it up with any reason under the sun.

I hope that your treatments go well and that you get better.

When a schedule is generated it factors in your off days. If it feels you're not needed on a certain day it won't schedule you. The schedule writer could put you in on another day... thats whay i usually do for my department

And yet at my store, two of the Deli peeps have been getting their schedules "tweaked" and thankfully they both got with some peeps that not only work with our DH but also are above him. Cause it would seem that he was deliberately changing folks hours and not letting them know and both women thought they were going to get suspended or fired over something he did. Thankfully it was straightened out eventually. But still that sucked that they even had to go through with that in the first place and highly wrong for the DH to be messing with people that way.

Exactly. Well said, Bakerchick. The real question I think you mean to ask is "Can they legitimately cut your hours for requesting a day off?" and the answer would be no, they absolutely cannot punish you with the schedule in any way, for anything UNLESS you're suspended, if that counts. They tend to do this anyway and then deny it when/if confronted about it. Scummy, scummy, scummy Kroger management.

Ahh, yea, I didn't think they could. But truly just never know given how sneakily they can do things to you. As I had just heard recently from two Deli peeps about our DH changing their hours on them. And nearly getting the one chick suspended even though she was in there 2 hours early for her original shift. And the other chick didn't know which time she was supposed to have been there. As they changed things on her last minute. And I think they had told her she was going to be fired or something. Thankfully I had our back up managers number in my cell and let her call and she got it taken care of and straightened out. But seriously what is up with that? Are you deliberately trying to get folks fired?
