Why do I care soo much?

I get so angry when I'm working with people who think they don't have to do anything. Why do I allow it to get to me? Why do I let others affect my mood? Why does it matter to me how well the job is done? Others don't care. Heck management doesn't care or they would put a stop to it. So, why do I care so much?

You care cause you are a normal human being. Trying to cope with the craziness of your work environment. And just trying to keep up with it all. Trust me, I've more than been in your shoes. And still am. And when I talk to my family about what is going on at times, all I hear, especially from my dad, is why don't you give management something to think about or chew on. In regards to just not finishing stuff like other people and see what they say about it. But I'm just not that way. And admittedly it stresses ME out even more so than management when things don't get done. As I'm not a person that likes to half ass anything if possible. Nor am I one that has been a big fan of the gossip and people constantly witching about things aren't getting done but are NEVER on a closing shift at all any more to realize what all goes into doing a "GOOD" close in the first place.

But then I bought some Chamomile scented Epsom Salt and after a long leisurely bath with that stuff. I can give zero ****s too. ;) And nope that isn't an ad for the product. But seriously it does totally relieve my stress a great deal and I can totally just focus on the work in front of me. And be rather whatever, about what people say.

I feel crazy, though! It makes me want to blow up, it makes me so mad, but I'm at work so I have to keep my composure. Then when I get home I'm asking myself "Why???"

How long you been working at Kroger? As it sounds like you might need a transfer or to find another gig, if your just not feeling it any more.

5 months! I can't transfer until I've worked there a year. I like the job itself, I just can't work with people who don't work and get away with not working. I'd rather be working by myself then having someone stand around and just being in my way. What makes me angry is those same people standing around doing nothing, will bark orders at me. They basically are telling me to do the job they should've been doing. I'm one person and do the work of 3 people, while the others are standing there talking to each other. Then they all look at me like "why are you so mad?" I'm mad cause I'm the only one working and their getting paid for the work I'm doing.

Ahh, and definitely been there and felt that. Not sure if you have to be there a year also before you can switch depts. or not. But if not, I'd be asking around your store, to see if there is an opening in a dept. that runs a bit more smoothly. And hopefully is less stressful.

I can feel for some of what you are saying, though I am sure you are dealing with a worse situation.  I think everyone who works hard has at least one of these in their department.

If you are a hard working person who cares about your work and does your best to keep your department in good shape, you can't help but be upset by people who seem to put forth as little effort as possible, dragging the ship down.  When your hours are tight, it is all the more frustrating to have a coworker who wastes what little hours and help you get.  I noticed you said that management doesn't care, so I don't know if you have talked to a manager/department head one-on-one yet?  If not, you should try to get with your department head and talk about how you feel like others are not pulling their weight and are wasting company time.  I don't know your manager so obviously I don't know if they will take it seriously or not.

But ultimately, you cannot make someone else have a good work ethic, and even if you try to get managers involved, it may still be a problem because it's the attitude -- your coworkers have to change it from within.  The only other advice I can give is work hard, take pride in your own work, and make people rise to your level... don't sink to theirs.  Focus on your work and at the end of the day, think only about the work you did and whether you did a good job, not on how much they did.  If you have a good manager (and you may not, I don't know) they will notice who is doing the work and you will move up.  If things are bad enough, I am sure you can transfer eventually, but be aware that there will probably be people like this everywhere who take advantage of the others who are willing to work hard... it just may not be quite as bad.

Serenity, Thank you for the pep talk. I spoke with a manager tonight. I asked her why she thought I cared so much. She basically said what you said. I hate that it gets to me. I will continue to do work hard. I don't know how not to. I just wish others cared also. I know ithat's something I can't control, but it still bothers me.

Why do you care? Somebody has to, and it might as well be you!

But then again, those are just my two cents! twocents.gif

I have been asking myself that exact same question for the past three years I have worked at my current store.  This place, and the Kroger company itself have done nothing but screw me over since I left the Kroger I worked at originally in Michigan.  And no one else who works at my store seems to care enough to do their job.  I hate every single one of my coworkers without exception for this very reason.  The management here wonders why they can't hire anyone who actually wants to work...they only have themselves to blame.  Hard workers will only go where they know there are others like them, not a place like Kroger.

My advice is to try to not care anymore.  I have been doing that and feel much better.  I also talk to no one while working, because I don't want to have any association with morons who only want to try and put me down with their petty drama and constant complaining.
