Carding for Liquor: In Illinois, Do you card everybody REGARDLESS OF AGE, look, or whatever?

My manager is a real jerk about this.  Says, " if they LOOK old enough, let em go.  Use your judgement. Sell it to them.  I was TOLD in the beginning, to card EVERYONE REGARDLESS!

I'm NOT gonna lose my job because some fart is pissed I card them! I'm sorry.

What do yo do?

Michigan here. Kroger policy is to care if they look under 40. I do. We have had failed stings here resulting in a major fine. If it continues to happen the store can lose its liquor license. Card. It's your job and your financials that are on the line.

In Georgia you MUST card everyone no matter what they look like. County police do undercover shops (with underage kids) trying to see what stores will sell to minors. You can lose your job and the store can be fined (I think the minimum for a first fine is $2000.) As a side note here in Georgia we CAN do a visual ID for tobacco products but can ask for ID if someone looks obviously underage.

michigan here as well and we also do the under 40 ID thing. we had a cashier get suspended for 2 weeks for failing to ID someone. you gotta do it, it's your job. if someone gets grouchy that they're getting ID'd, then they can take a hike. your managers will back you up every single time. bleh

In Oregon our policy is to card if they look over 27. If they look over 27, you can bypass it.

But, if you ask for the ID, or if they show you the ID, you HAVE TO type in their birthdate, don't bypass it.

Policy where I'm at is if they look over 27 no need to ID.
Personally the only people I don't ID are those that I'm absolutely without a doubt sure of. Generally those who look 35+ wrinkles etc.
If you look youngish you're getting IDed by me. At my store though I have noticed that many of the other cashiers are a lot more lenient than I am.
