One of my managers jokes around and says all she learned about shoplifiting she learned in our store. The latest tactic is to take a bunch of stuff into one of the handicap bathrooms, stuff everything into your purse or backpack, leave a few items in the brown carryout in the bathroom and leave the store.
LOL. People don't get that clever in my store. It's happened multiple times where people will just walk out with a cart full of groceries. No bags, no receipt, just leave. And once they jog on out there's hardly anything we can do
i love finding empty condom boxes stuffed behind product on the shelves....people realize there's no age limit on buying those, right? as if the cashiers give a hoot that you're buying those, when they see ample tampons roll down that belt every day.
Theft is pretty bad at our store. It is because there's nothing they can do. They can't chase them or try to stop them. All they can do is write a report. Some customers will sit by the exit and wait until an employee is either walking in or out and will walk out at the same time. This has happened so many times that I just laugh about it now.

Not sure how bad it is at our store as we've stopped having store huddles. And not too sure how bad it is in other parts of the store. But oh yes, without fail there is always a couple of parents every so often that let their kids get a doughnut out of the case and be eating on it before they get to the register. Even once had a mom with a couple of kids, ask for a bunch of stuff out of the pastry case. And when one of the kids saw some of the larger chocolate chip cookies our pastry chef does, she asked for one of those too. But wanted it just in a wax paper and the tag for it. But, it's like, I can't let you do that, cause for one. I know that damn cookie would have been eaten before making it to the front. Or for two, it would wound up dropped all over the store and again, never gotten paid for. So that is why I slapped that bad boy in a pastry box, with the whole total of their items on there.
Sure, the mom could have taken it out around the corner or something. But still seeing the box around enough places of the store in their cart, as well as the other items. I figured somebody would remind her not to FORGET her pastries before she left that day.
And although I know when I was first hired on, the HR guy was like they know some customers do that sort of thing. But not much they can do about it, unless the customer in question fesses up to having gotten a doughnut from the case when they reach the register.
Condoms are all in cases at my store now since people would steal them like there is no tomorrow. Honestly, as a cashier, I can confirm we really don't give a rats ass if you're buying condoms, plan B, or anything else
It happens fairly often here. They don't know LP is watching though. When shopper tries to leave with their full cart LP can tackle them. Kinda fun! lol
