Best/Worst In Store Audio Network Songs

the only songs out of your list that we have are manic monday and somewhere only we know. i absolutely despise manic monday, and am indifferent towards somewhere only we know.

I HATE

"love you like a love song" by selena gomez drives me nuts. not a terrible song but they play it too much. "baby one more time" by britney spears is also gratingly overplayed, as is "oops i did it again." there's also "wake me up when september ends" by green day and "1234" by the plain white t's (i really can't stand that one)

I LIKE

"if i were you" by hoobastank is a pretty good song imo. i also can't hate "what is love" by haddaway (gotta do the jim carey headbob while i'm working to that.) "never tear us apart" by INXS is also a personal fave. "rain down on me" by phil collins packs a punch as well. "north side gal" is also extremely catchy.

At one point at our Kroger, they aired a lot of "generic" tracks amongst various 1970s and 1980s pop songs. I quite enjoyed them, they sounded like they were recorded in central Europe in the mid 1980s. The quality of the cassette transfer was the icing on the cake, dropouts and dull sound abound. The songs were "Midnight Radio", "Send A Letter", "What Is Wrong My Little Friend, Sharleena?", "Little White Lies", a cover of Badfinger's "Baby Blue" (1972), and the best one was "For Seven Years With Blood Like Ice." The latter could be an actual 1980s song, has the Depeche Mode style synths and the lyrics are the most coherent of the bunch. The worst being "What Is Wrong," which I can tell the central Europeans had only so much knowledge of English and decided to have a half decent extended synthesizer solo. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Surely it is not just me who has heard these songs. I work at the New Albany, Ohio location.

Absolutely no good 80's songs at my store. All just the bad pop from the 80's. I'm surprised there is so much variety between locations really considering it is all just "In store audio network". I think the only song from your list they ever play at my store is "work from home" which is quite catchy :P. I forgot to mention "Walking on broken glass" by Annie Lennox which I am quite partial to. Anyone else have that one?

I tend to enjoy "Adult Contemporary" hits from the 1970s (soft rock, or "Easy Listening" to some). For instance, here is a webpage that lists songs that hit Number One in 1971. Out of all those songs, only one or two have I heard on our Kroger feed in the last 3 years, including "The night they drove old Dixie Down", Joan Baez.

this is why I HATE the In store Audio network. They "blacklist" a big percentage of good songs from the past, apparently from dislike toward the artists or songs,or because those songs are too "expensive" to obtain the rights for.

Praise You-Finally figured out the name of this song. And I normally love it since seeing the Cruel Intentions movie, but there is a long stretch in the middle of it that when it plays on the radio it skips or whatever and it's just a long stream of weird clicks like it can't quite make it through the rest of the song. Just the accompaniment that goes along with the song just playing away to a series of clicks.

And any other song that you can't fully make out the words to.

well, that covers over half the songs they play on the In-Store Audio network. And if I can understand the lyrics, Especially those 80s songs that have a line repeated over and over and over until I feel like pulling my hair out. Like the "skilled songwriter" hit a big flat "BLANK" and decided to repeat the same line several times as they couldn't think of anything else to write. really talented Songwriting has been going downhill for several decades, especially since the '50s.

Surprisingly or not so luckily, we can hear quite a few songs pretty good in our store. Hence I can sing along to Adele, some Katy Perry, Megan Trainor(just to name a few I forgot to name earlier that play often).

But yea, I also forgot to add the folks that do covers of Micheal Jackson songs or that song from the Bodyguard, I will always love you. I don't know how it ISN'T a crime when someone abuses a well known song and tries to change the sound of it. Especially when it's not a great adaption.

LOL @ everyone saying "Manic Monday". I agree. Remember when the media was acting like that was high art because Prince wrote it?

The thing for me is, I don't feel like "Nothing Compares 2 U" "All At Once" or "Didn't We Almost Have It All" are objectively bad songs.

I JUST DON'T WANT TO HEAR THEM WHEN I'M WORKING OR SHOPPING FOR DINNER!

Of all the invalid/stupid things Kroger customers complain about, I'm suprsied this doesn't seem to be one of them. Especially with the suicide issue going on these days. I don't know who sings "All At Once" but she sounds like she's planning on bathing with a toaster.

I really like "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World and Fall Out Boy's "Move Along" but I view them as nostalgic so I'm biased.

The song that samples the Munster's theme, is one that I like.

It's not in our playlist anymore but I miss the "Dinosaur" song.

You know "Open the Door, Get on the Floor, Everybody Walk the Dinosaur!" But again, that reminds me of simpler, innocent times.

But really, they need to chill on the breakup songs. I normally don't like religion crammed down my throat, but I would prefer GOSPEL over that. At least gospel is uplifting.

Your right about manic Monday, has to be the most hated song because everyday at Krogrr Is manic.

Favorite song however is hard to explain, for one I don't even know the name. Only lyrics I remember are "say it again, stay for a while" and that's it's. I hope that one day ill fond out the name for that song.

I have NEVER heard Paul Anka's "TIMES OF YOUR LIFE" played on Kroger, and the lyrics you posted are not in that song, so I am assuming (earlier poster) was referring to some other (probably much newer) song. I absolutely LOVE Paul Anka's voice and delivery on Times of Your Life..........it is a classic, if it came on while I was working, I would have to stop and reminisce, and would lose track of what I was doing..........it reminds me of where I was living and some of the things going on in my life at the time it was on the radio. Do you mean by "the 1234 song" a 1983 song by German pop singer Peter Schilling, called "Major Tom (coming home)"? I had heard that song for several years on the Kroger feed, but had no idea who it was or when it was released, until doing a google search with what few lyrics I could understand.

This is an example of a song that I only like certain parts of..........I don't care for the parts where he is singing real low (muttering.......can just barely hear or understand the words.... this was about outer space???? ). the last part that actually sounds musically beautiful is just in the last minute or two. Seems like half of the song time is wasted before we really hear the 'good' part. Just my opinion.

Paul Anka, an underrated performer with a great voice. Here is one of his "forgotten" songs, it it SO uplifting, a really feel-good song that I never hear on the radio or on the Kroger music playlist: "I Believe there is nothing stronger than our Love"

Because, then I might get to hear that song (and maybe a cover) at least once every single day for the next few weeks or months.

First it's Rapture, then it's Heart of Glass. Or, some days it's Heart of Glass, and then a few hours later it is Rapture.

Never mind that Blondie did sing some other songs, but it probably costs too much for the ISAN to purchase the rights to play them also! Two hits, but no more.

You're right. I forgot I have heard "One way or Another" occasionally. But seems like not nearly as often as the other two I mentioned. Btw, I know "Blondie" is technically the name of the group, but most people sorta think of her as Blondie. I read an article online where she admitted that she was casually known as, or she considered herself as, "Blondie" regardless of the ostensible name of the group being Blondie.

I was being goofy with the reference to Madonna. I meant Blondie (oops--Deborah Harry) was a precursor of Madonna (Pre-Madonna).....i.e. the same "type'.....very attractive but 'bleachy' blonde, flashy showoff, questionable morals, prone to provocative songs/actions, etc).

In any case.........I don't understand why the In Store Audio Netork music service will play a certain "group" of songs by an artist, for some length of time, then "fade them out" (like The Tide is High) to never be played again, and replace with others. Does this mean they no longer have the rights to play those other songs? Do they still have them "available" to play if they wanted to again? Did they remove them from the playlist for some other reasons? Did a new employee of the company decide to eliminate them from playlist consideration because of their personal dislike of a song? I know this is just aimless pointless wondering, but just curious anyway.

The Krogrr Playlist has the misfortune (sometimes it's a good thing) of having a playlist that is very forgettable, except for those annoying earbugs mentioned earlier. I would have to say that there is a universal dislike of Manic Monday by any retail employee. My favorite song is one that I haven't been able to identify. The only lyrics that I think I've heard go "Say It Again" and either "Get Up x3" or "Get out" of my head". Have any of you got an idea what this song might be?

Out of those 150 songs on that list, the only one that I know what it remotely sounds like without hearing it is "Hello" by Adele. The only reason I know that is from advertisements on tv.

Pay attention to what's being played over your store's PA system...Then, check out all of those titles listed...I guarantee there will be more than a few where you'll go, "I've heard THAT before!" or "THAT sounds familiar!"...

I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in Michigan, many of those have been on a constant rotation and some of those have been played twice within the same hour!

I am IN LOVE with this song at my Kroger but i have no idea who sings it or what the guy even says, it is a very mellow dramatic Rock song with an epic/beautiful guitar solo at the beginning that kind of sounds like the Trans Siberian Orchestra- Carol of the Bells beginning but the song completely changes with the guy's mourning voice...lol it sounds like he's saying "send them off" or "sell 'em shut" idk i can never fully listen to the lyrics because i'm always busy worrking but ik the song from the intro lol my first guess was Metallica or Nirvana but i was wrong :( if anyone has any ideas please help

I also freaked out with joy when i heard Florence and the Machine - No Light, No Light

Anyways the worse song at my Kroger that i've heard has got to be Caesars- Jerk it Out

OK, guys...To make it an EVEN 200, I have 50 more wonderful earworms for you...A "Part Five", if you will...I have to say that although I appreciate the newer songs and variety, there is nothing quite as utterly PATHETIC (Yes, PA-THET-IC!) as The In-Store Audio Network when it comes to obscurity and repetition, even within the same hour...Believe me, in the old days, to get a song played on the radio, there would be huge amounts of testing involved...If a song didn't pass muster with a focus group or sample of listeners, it wouldn't get played...If even an AVERAGE radio station played songs THIS obscure, they would be out of business within a week...But OH, somehow, through it all, our beloved In-Store Audio Network does not seem to care about that...Never mind that in this day and age of the Internet and I-Tunes, there are literally MILLIONS if not BILLIONS of songs out there worth hearing that no one will ever know about...Sad, ain't it? Even if they had a greater mix of past and present playlists, I wouldn't mind, but in any case, here are FIFTY more from the standard playlist that you have probably heard at least ONCE this week, if not more often...ENJOY! biggrin
