Being told "you need to learn how to use this" by a customer

Who doesn't understand or doesn't give a **** about the equipment in question.

Had a customer on Uscan, who had like 5 cases of water and some soda can packs. She didn't feel like lifting them up to scan them and neither did I. So she tells me to scan them using the handheld "thingie." I tell her that I don't have it (I really didn't. I had no idea where they took it.). She moans some more, "but y'all had it the other day." Again, I say I don't have it. I decide to be nice and tell her I'll scan them at the end when she's done scanning everything else.

So that time comes, and I whip out the wireless hand scanner that's for the attendant station (so much faster to scan things there) after transferring her order. She goes, "I thought you didn't have the handheld." I try to explain to her that it's not the same thing and that I'm using the attendant station. She responds by not listening to a word I said and telling me "you need to learn how to use this thing." It was at that moment that I realized I wanted to punch her in the face.

It's sad when they think they know your job. They tell me even as a dept head.

No, customer, it's totally different software and doesn't work like it used to. It kinda sucks for us but...

I transferred stores because a medium percentage of customers treated disabled employees like retards.  Even been called the "r" word a few times which is harassive slang towards us.  I ignore the rude customers.  It's not our place to judge them.  It's God's place to judge them.  For every 1 that makes it into heaven 1,000 go to hell.  Unless they repent their sins this would be counted as a sin.  Because it is not respecting their neighbor.  If it bothers you that much you can file a complaint with the kroger ethics point board.  I generally carry a small note book in my pocket and if a harassive customer comes my way I jot down the incident there and then.  Customers can wait.  Assemble enough of them and file a complaint.

Don't get me started with SCO, it wasn't designed for associates in mind. Fujitsu wasn't 100% awesome, but if you had quality associates, customers learned the process faster!

You should have said to her, "you really need to learn when and when not to use self check out."

Oh, the things we wish we could say to our oh so lovely and wonderful customers...

Had the same situation literally the first couple weeks our store changed to the new Toshiba SCO software. A lady early morning wasn't waiting for items to clear after placing in the bagging area and kept tripping the stop screen. Because the buzzer sound isn't different enough from the normal beep she kept "scanning" her items anyway. So I stop her and tell her about the new system and that everything after that screen popped up didn't scan. She tries to argue with me while I'm trying to figure out which items didn't scan. I'm getting highly annoyed at this point but remain professional.

I am looking at the screen and accidentally picked out an item I realize she did scan. At this point she states she knows what she's doing then proceeds to take items off the current SCO and take them to the next one. I try to explain again the new system and she cuts me off so I just threw up my hands and stepped back. Now I'm pretty well pissed but again keeping my cool. She then had the nerve to tell me I need to learn how to do my job. My smile drops and I simply tell her, well I've been at this for 6 years ma'am. I know what I'm doing.

She was rude and because she was trying to shop before work and couldn't rush out as quick as she wanted messing up the SCO was clearly my fault.

You're not alone and holidays are even worse for us SCO Cashiers. How many have heard the line how it's taking jobs or how they should be paid since they're using SCO? My go answers are, We are ALWAYS hiring if your looking for a job and I can easily open up a check lane if you'd like.. Just ask.

To how I feel about the new SCO Software? It's a love and hate relationship. Many things it's a huge step forward from Fujitsu while there are things that are a huge step backwards. Our SCOs is the older genesis carousel type and have had so many glitches with the software on them. Also while I like the idea of the stop screens, I feel they need huge improvement. They need to be flashier on screen to really catch the customers attention because so many just overlook it and the buzzer isn't different enough from the standard beep so folks think they are still scanning fine. Also I've seen folks use the SCO perfectly and still get a stop screen so I clear it from my handheld only to realize its still on a timer and won't leave the screen until the time has run out or I scan my barcode. That's annoying.

Also an annoying issue is the SCO telling the customer to place the item in the bag after the item is placed in the bag every single time! Some customers it rightfully confuses and they take the item back out and place it back only to have it give them a stop screen.

That happens to me all the time.  It's especially bad with items that are on sale where you have to buy a certain number to get a discount.  Several times I've gotten so tired of hearing that condescending voice telling me toplace the item in the bag and then told to remove said item and scan it before placing it in the bag that I'll turn the volume control all the way down.  Apparently, other people have done the same thing because I've used u-scans where there was no sound except for the sound of the scanner.  I've often said one day I'm just going to leave everything and walk away if the problems persists.
