Basically, but If you have more then 1 for the same reason.....those are more like handcuffs!

In reality it all depends on the situation and what happened.

Co manager threatened to write up our truck guy for not consistently dating product in the back room. That is the definition of abuse of power. Write somebody up for such a simple fix but walk around lazy workers and slackers all day long without a second glance

Kroger's "Best Practices" in effect. they know it's going on, but just don't care, and/ or there is more than likely someone playing favorites with certain associates. I stopped caring, also, and found another job. guess what I was told after offering them two weeks before I quit? "don't worry about it, just go tell (store manager's last name) so they can find someone to replace you." that's how much they value diligent associates who consistently picked up the slack of the lazy ones you mentioned. don't even attempt to retain them.

Yup, that's my feeling too.  I was one that always was planning 2 months out for anything that might happen(Staffing).  Recently, I was told we couldn't do that anymore, have to basically "live in the moment", my store in the last 2 weeks lost 15+ people.  While I know I can be replaced, people that know me would really take a good look at whats going on if I jumped ship.

While I know everyone is under pressure, it almost seems they want to drive off the long term associates (Yes we are $$$ but we are also the ones that show up).

I will say, until i learn any different or i work at one of them, I've learned that we're simply time slots to any retail company.

if the lazy associates left too, they'd attract more lazy people with one of their laughable hiring events. all that is is an associate who i guess is chosen to sit there for a few hours and greet people, hand out brochures, that type of thing. them resigning would never happen tho, the slackers have got to keep having the union's benefits, for doing minimal work every shift. what a trade off.

I was, however, caught off guard when the store manager asked me why I wanted to leave. we weren't like best friends outside of work or anything, and the extent of our interaction on the job was a hi and bye basis. maybe he did care about keeping me tho, but once I mentioned my reasons: better pay where I was going, the lack of effort from others, too much messing around on their phones for too long, and all of the confrontation that occurred before I realized bringing someone's refusal to work to their attention was futile, I figure he knew I wouldn't change my mind. regarding the pay at kroger, the timing of the new ufcw wage negotiations was hilarious. I kid you not, just a few short weeks after I resigned, kroger went from minimum wage to 10.00 an hour. anyway, it's still less than what I make where I am now, and when people at that store see me shopping and ask if I'm coming back, they say they don't blame me when I say no.

one final note about that store manager, my jaw almost dropped one day when I clocked in and saw him stocking produce from one of the blue carts. I wanted to take a picture, cause it would last longer. I quickly figured out that "company" was on their way, but still, that was one of my biggest complaints for the longest time, management standing around and pointing at things that need to be done, but never doing anything about it. I have no idea what their typical day consists of, but all I've ever seen is them walking around looking at everything, smoking out back by receiving when I would empty trash, and talking on the phone (whether it was work related or not, I was always just passing by, and never paid enough attention to determine anyway).

Well most managers will agree with you if you tell them 4 reason, how are they going to defend against that many reasons. In my KMA, the Company uses the Union as a scapegoat in everything. We cant pay people more because the Union, but in reality they cant pay more because they want to shrink the pay gap between new hires and topped out associates. IF the company would have any balls they would meet with all the UFCW's and get pay up to par and get staffing where it needs to be...... HOLIDAYS are not a time when you want customers pissed

all i got was "fair enough," we shook hands, and I walked out after saying "I was glad to work here." (keyword, "was.") feeling like I was in a store that valued employees opinions and even their long term employment went out the window eons ago.

holidays........ hahaha, that's when our customers seemed naturally pissed more than any normal time of the year. I was in high spirits, but they just seemed stressed out. I remember the collard greens being marked way down to 29 cents a bundle, and piled sky high in that white container with a drain on the bottom, normally used for storing berries and melons to be used for cut fruit. no joke, we ended up stocking them on every trip to the sales floor. once they sold out a couple days before Thanksgiving, or Christmas, new years eve, the pissing off kicked into high gear. I told them, we'll have more tomorrow, you can count on that.

What department?

Employees can be written up for not dating grinder cleaning logs in the meat department.

If the store has a lot of produce spoilage, the Co manager might be threatening write ups out of desperation to make sure product is dated and rotated.

If the employee thinks the write up is unfair, they should refuse to sign it and grieve it with the union immediately.

I was guilt tripped into agreeing to stay my last two weeks and then never put on the schedule.  At least they were honest with you.
