My register will be short by at least a dollar, can you get in trouble for a dollar difference?

No.

You won't even get asked about it most likely.

During my first month, I accidentally shorted the till by ****ing $20. I forget what I did exactly, but I think I miscounted a $20 bill by thinking they gave me too much, when in actuality they gave me the right amount. Of course, they said nothing and gladly took back the $20.

I was so scared. Ultimately, nothing happened. I wasn't even asked about it. But, I NEVER shorted the till again.

The till can be up to $1.00 short and be fine. It only becomes a problem if it starts happening over a long period of time, times when certain people are scheduled, or the bookkeeper notices something weird.

They can and should/will look into it by rolling back cameras. Just don't make it a habit and you'll be fine.
