Can they do this?

I worked last night by myself for 6 hours came in today and was told by another person, they heard I was suspended. I said "What they have to write me up first? Why?" That person said "because you missed a temp." I said "No way I don't miss my temps" . I got to my station and asked the others and they all denied knowing anything in such a phony way, that they made it so obvious. Then one said to the other "She thinks she knows everything". An hour later they call me up to the office and tell me. I said "You have to write me up first" They said "That's what we're doing right now. You're only suspended for 1 day" I said "Oh, 1 day? This isn't going to affect my Lead position or classes for my promotion, right? " They said "No, we have the utmost respect for you. We have to do this because we have to treat everyone fair." I said "Ok, I can use a day off after what I dealt with yesterday. I'll see you thursday."

I'm  pissed because I work my ass off there, put up with so much disrespectful abuse from the others, show up on time, and do twice the work any of them do. Then get in trouble for one miss. At the same time I'm okay with it because I did need the day off!

Can they actually do that? Write me up the same day they suspend?? I'm going to call the union tomorrow because they were closed at the time. But I just need to know!

I never heard this before. Find out from your Union Rep if management was out of line. Please post an update here.

Never go into a meeting with management without union representation.

They weren't available at the time. I'm suppose to just keep working and not go when, they call me?

There supposed to give you a write up warning first. One day suspension is NOT the first step.

It depends on the Union Contact, but normal first its a we "Talked" to you write up. But if I was you, start applying for jobs elsewhere, there's too much they expect without giving enough staff.

Yep.  Just tell them you refuse to answer any questions or participate in any discussion until you have union representation.  If they send you home, go ahead and leave but be sure to tell your union steward so you can be paid for any time you missed when you file a grievance against them for not following proper disciplinary procedures.

I want to know why your solution is to apply for jobs elsewhere and quit? Why quit doing something I like doing, just because others are immature disrespectful, and don't like me? That's what they want! Why give them what they want??? That's cowardly!!!

The Union believes they are going to give me back the hours I was supposed to work yesterday. If they don't, I'm suppose to call and let the Union know.

If a union rep is not available you do don't have to go into a meeting. Tell them you want to exercise your eiengsrten rights, and if there is no rep or steward available, they have to let you go back to work. You are right they cannot suspend you without write up first. I hope you didn't sign anything, that's a harsh punishment if it's your use time missing a temp. Call your union rep, a suspension is on it's way to being fired. In the contract in my district they have to warn you first that you could be given a suspension before actually giving one.

I did call, they said I will be reimbursed those hours. I might have to work them, but I will be reimbursed. The thing is there is only 2 days left or this week and management hasn't said anything about working them. So if I don't hear anything today I'll be calling the Union Rep back and letting them know. Of course I won't know for sure how it's going to be handle until next pay day.

If I was you, work your scheduled shifts. If they told you your "suspended" and your filed grievance, they are to "make it right" and give you the pay.
