What happens to a cashier if a customer walks off without paying?

I had one who only paid for one item, but the other items were run up and had to be voided with the intent to ring it up again, so that the total would be correct. But after ringing and paying for the one item, I forgot to rering previously voided stuff and they took off with the voided stuff, and when I went outside, I could not find them.

How is it that they had the items in their possession after you voided them off?

Items were bag Ed because they were about to be paid for. I was about to accept the cash when the customer questioned a price on one item. When trying to price override theitem, it wouldn't come up correctly, or s marked on the package, because the tag was actually invalid. Meaning someone in the other department, was being shady and put a tag on the item so their friend would get a lower price. I didn't realize this at the time. When trying to price override and then void, since the tag was invalid, it messed up the total, and did crazy things, so I just voided off the whole transaction, with the intent of starting over. Before starting over, I went to get a new tag made for the item that was ringing up wrong. I went to the department to get a proper tag, came back and the new tag wouldn't scan at all, because once again the employee is being shady. So with all this going on, I finally got the item rung up customer paid for the one item, I forgot to rering the rest and customer left with the stuff. When I remembered after checking a few customers, i ran outside but of course customer was gone. I told employee in the other department about it, and that's how, I realized what was going on, that the employee was attempting to get the customer a price that should not have been on the product, essentially they made a fake tag, that's why my register was acting crazy, and wouldn't let any overrides be done on the item. So now I have m first walk out ever in my history of working retail, never had that before, because another jerk employee, is trying to give their friends unauthorized discounts. What I'll happen?

This happeend to me once I got a significant incident reminder (SIR) but those do not mean a whole lot unless you keep doing bad things. This is assuming that you aren't on probation.

I'm not on probation.  Been with Kroger 4 years. But I'm not a kiss up, I'm good at my job and usually thorough., but this day I was working with no sleep and my brain wasn't behaving the whole day. I want to tell my store manager, but I frontline him very well, and I don't want a write up.

The first week I was on Uscan, I had a customer walk off with like $90 worth of stuff. Silly me, I went and told one of the co-managers about it. The manager practically went and talked to the floor supervisor for 5 minutes, and I was told to be on register for the rest of my shift pending a write up.

The next day, the CSM talked to the co-manager about it and explained how it can't really be my fault when we can't be so omnipresent on every single customer at the Uscan. And I was allowed back on the Uscan with no write up. I learned a valuable lesson... never tell a manager that a customer has walked off without paying... hint, hint.

Now, I've never had a customer walk off on me when I was on register though. That, I think they will be more strict. But I have no idea.

I might just take the write up, if that's all it would be I have never had this happen before and I don't like dishonest employees
