I know a person that works for Joans.  And, another that worked for Subway while working at Kroger.

If Bluebell sells groceries like a grocery store, then I would say they are considered competition and you shouldn't work for them.  If it is more like a restaurant type business, then it should not be an issue.

If you want to be certain, ask your store manager if it is a conflict and don't discuss it with anyone else.

Or, get the job with Bluebell and don't tell anyone else.

With Kroger getting their feet wet in the restaurant business, that could be considered conflict of interest in a few years.

Kroger can and will fire you if you are caught working for a competitor. Not worth it unless you're not making enough money at Kroger anyway.

BlueBell Ice cream? While it is a retailer and Kroger does sell Ice cream....it wouldn't be considered a "competitor".  Thinking about it, Kroger can only really say someone is a "competitor" if they sell a multitude of the same items.  Walmart, Target, HEB, Costco, Meijer, BJ's Warehouse sells Groceries, OTC, Non-Foods and other like items would be considered competition.  Kroger would be completely stretching it if they said a Ice Cream Shop, Restaurant or a Bank was competition.

For 9 months I had a secondary job at a clothing retail store that also sold some snacks (basically, similar to TJ MAXX or Marshall's but it wasn't.)

My entire management team knew and didn't care.

It wasn't considered a competitor because it wasn't groceries, and what little novelty clothes my store sells doesn't make it a department store.

If Bluebell is a Scoop Shop you should have no problems.

I delivered pizzas part time for a while. Never told anyone. I eventually quit because they expected me to work close to full time due to short staffing and lazy kids, along with full time at Kroger. Money was great, but having no life and being tired and cranky all the time wasnt worth it. Plus, the management at this place was awful.
