The Union helps you keep your job, by making management go through the proper procedures before firing. Which means if you piss them off or they just don't like you they can't just fire you. They have to have a legit reason to fire you and proof that they followed all the steps. So, Yes it is worth it, if you want to keep your job.

This is a good point, but if you have done retail before and are used to dealing with management, or youvar good with working with them, or you know for sure you are a good fit with Kroger, when you may not need the Union. Just realize you will have your day them every week, and that adds up. Plus if you decide you don't want to being the Union anymore, it is hard to get out of. They use tricks and things to make I hard to leave. There are perks to being in the Union, like part time insurance and discounts on some things. But if you tend to get along with management no matter who the managers are, and you understand how they operate and know the rules then I would think carefully before joining because you might not need it.

That may be true if you have connections, but if you are a long time employee and close to retirement, Kroger tries to get rid of you before you retire. If in the Union they have to follow the steps. If not in the union they can just let you go. I have seen this with my own eyes. An employee that worked there for almost 30 years was getting close to retirement age. Kroger management talked how they want his person out. They waited for that one major mistake so that they could fire this person without taking steps. No warning, no write up, nothing. They then set this person up for failure. Boom! Fired them in seconds. That's why I stay on it, watch my back, and make sure I don't make those mistakes.
