i recently got hired as a part-timer in the deli. Iv only completed two days, but I can tell the job just isnt for me. I have extreme anxiety and panic disorder, and since my first day Iv been having panic attacks before, during, and after both shifts. The manager even allowed me to leave an hour early my first day, because I got so worked up. How would I go about asking to move to another department? Im hoping I dont have to talk to my department head, as she is such a sweet person and would probably be so disappointed in me. I feel bad for failing everyone, but i really dont think I can continue in this department.
Before you give up on the deli department, you may want to ask about an early morning shift, before the store starts getting busy. Depending on the size and volume of your store, deli has shifts as early as 4:00AM.
If though you really feel this isn't working for you, then yeah, ask to speak to the co-manager that interviewed/hired you. There are some other positions in the store where you're more "on your own" like overnight stocking, file maintenance (depending on the time of day/week), bakery (like the 1:00AM-9:00AM shift), but just keep in mind... if your anxiety/panic attacks are linked to having to deal with customers, Kroger may not choose to keep you because Kroger puts a lot of emphasis on its employees being "people persons". Not trying to scare you, but I'm just being realistic and letting you know that this is something that might very well come up when you speaking with the co-manager that hired you.
Talk to he person who hired you. I have social anxiety disorder and ptsd due to being in a extremely abusive relationship years ago. I was able to find a good fit at Krogers on the nite crew. you Do have some contact with costumers if you work the early shift but mainly its a self paced work alone job. the late night cleaning crew is usually very laid back and a low key job as well.
does your store have a third shift deli person? that might be an option to consider if your store does, but not all stores have one. My store has someone that works 1am to 9am and slices the morning grab and go, does markdowns, makes the salads, and stuff like that to set the department for the day.
