I was recently told by a supervisor that gift cards have to be separated from the rest of the groceries. I honestly forgot what she said , something about it being the holidays and if the two are rung up together , the total ends up being 0. I dont know something like that. Just curious as to whether it is like this at other stores. Or if she was lying to make sure I wouldnt rang up gift cards with groceries. Usually if its something serious in regards to reducing theft , they print out a paper and have us sign it.
At our store, we haven't been told that. We scan gift cards with their groceries in the same order all the time. I've seen customers ring up gift cards on Uscan with their groceries.
I do know that they can't pay for a gift card with certain types of cards. Like buying a gift card with a gift card. The system would deny it.
The BIGGEST issue with GIFT CARDS are Kroger Gift Cards, they have instructed all stores to activate gift cards last because of the time cards activate. Some gift cards activate when payment is tendered, other activate at time of scan. I have seen customers get a cart full of groceries and a Kroger Gift Card and want the Gift Card activated at the beginning of the order and then delay the translation 5-10 minutes.

Let me try and understand. Do all gift cards (excluding Kroger gift cards) activate at the end of a transaction, meaning after payment?
I remember being told once that Kroger gift cards are live and loaded the second they're swiped. And that even if the order is voided without payment, the Kroger gift card remains active and loaded for a while. That true?
There's is a delay in activating Kroger GC's, which is why customer has stalled translations and "exchanged" card, allowing others to use them quickly at SCO. I would think there would be a delay in deactivating them also with Void Translation occurs.
I have seen some customers come to Uscan and try and buy some VISA gift cards, they try and pay with a card, then it fails. And while I'm not looking they abandon the cards. And just disappear without telling me.
Then like 10 minutes later, same thing. Except I'm not sure if it was the same customer or a different. And While I wasn't looking, they abandon the cards.
Last week, I had to void a transaction at Uscan for 3 abandoned VISA gift cards with a combined total of $1500.

They weren't really abandoned, were they...
Yea that's exactly why if I find a gift card at a register or uscan that is not one of our store ones, I immediately turn it in to Service Desk without delay. Any gift cards that are our store ones, are either turned in or disposed of.
