So this guy saw that this other guy had paid for an item but they forgot it at the Uscan. As I was going to put it away, he asks me, "hey since that's already paid for, can I have it?"
I was like wow, "I don't think so, I'll get fired for giving it to you."
This is the Uscan, customers never take their receipts.
In this particular case, the guy also didn't take his receipt. So I couldn't have said the other guy has the receipt.
Also interesting.. the other guy never came back for his item. That item was sitting in the reshop cart for the rest of the day. I'm still amazed by people who do this. How do you forget this thing that you paid for? Okay, you walk out the door, fine. But you get to your car.. surely you looked through the bags before starting the car? No? Okay. But then you go home and start looking for it.. surely you realize you forgot it? I guess they figure it's too much of a hassle to drive back to the store, just not worth the time. Yeah, that must be it.
I also find it interesting. On the register, cashier gives customer their receipt. Customer takes it, 100% of the time. On Uscan, 60 to 70% of customers always leave their receipt. Even when I stop them and ask them if they want their receipt that they're leaving behind.
Think of it this way in all situations at the store. If you didn't pay for it, its not yours! While the customer didn't take their receipt and item, the customer could come back for it and get it replaced. All receipts are digitally stores in the POS/Corp Computer System, giving the item to the person would still be considered shrink, because it could be replace to the original purchaser at a later time.
There was a situation like this at Subway once - except I didn't ask for the item. Guy in front of me bought 5 cookies and paid for them, then when he was getting napkins he must have forgotten them. He got in his car and drove off. The cashier asked me if I wanted them and I said okay so he gave them to me.
