The pre-packaged Paczki doughnuts in the plastic containers that we got in for Mardi Gras are absolutely horrible.  They're not even worth buying them at half price.  Don't waste your money.  Now the ones we used to get that came in bulk and have to be boxed up in those red and white boxes are actually pretty good.  Oh, and I'll be glad when I don't have to make anymore King Cakes.  Last year we made over 100.  We ran out of the boxes and had to put them in 12-count doughnut boxes.

I can't resist answering this post, just because I am curious as to what you mean by "horrible". I haven't tasted them and have no  idea how good or bad they are, but can you elaborate on exactly why you feel they are "horrible"?  So many people (customers especially) can be critical but don't give any real reason why they don't like something.

I mean, are they too dry?  too sweet?  not sweet enough?   Very bland or "flat" like there isn't quite enough salt in the recipe?  Undercooked?  Overcooked?  Too greasy?   Taste old?   Too soggy?  Too hard?  Too crumbly?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I can't say anything good or bad about the filling.  It's just there.   I've had better.  The bread part is what's horrible.  Now it's not take one bite and spit it out horrible but it tastes like plain raw dough, even though they're obviously fully cooked.  It's just blah.  You can't taste sugar, salt, butter or anything else that normally makes a doughnut or other pastry taste good.  It taste like the only thing they put in the dough was flour and water.  I'm not the only one who thinks this.  Nobody in our bakery liked them when we sampled them.

pre made packzi's? here we got the same ones we always have, the only thing that was different is that the cases come with boxes inside them already so we didn't have to order packzi boxes.

Pre-packaged chocolate dipped strawberries?!?

WTF!! as much as i'd like not having to make them, events like this is what gets us our boosts in ELMS hours. It annoys me that they are doing things like this. and we have contests to see which stores in our districts sell the most berries! How can you do this with pre-packed ones? Ugh.

Sorry you are going through that 4hour. It's no better for my store either though, as I don't think the pre-packaged ones sell that great. And even in addition to those, they want our pastry chef to make 11,000 this year off the strawberries and other stuff she dips herself.

Hell it's so bad when you look at the order form for a pack of 12 it gives you a price of 16.99 but when a customer called to check on her order, the actual label said 19.99. Mind you, she got 2 of those suckers and I was kind of like oh snap, I hope I don't get witched out when I tell her how much she'll ACTUALLY be spending for her order. Thankfully she was cool with it. But oh man, that was something else discovering how they had that little bait and switch on the order form.

I don't know how many our chefs were suppose to make, but when I walked into the deli cooler the other day, I saw three stacks of trays of strawberries from produce stacked between 5 and 6 feet high.  We had more earlier and we got more in today.  Last year I threw out several bascarts of chocolate dipped strawberries that nobody wanted even at half price.  The chef and deli manager decided to just scan out the rest of the strawberries rather than waste time and all that dipping chocolate making them and then scanning them out later.  Do people even like chocolate dipped strawberries or do they just say they like them because they think they're suppose to?  I like chocolate and I like strawberries, but I don't like them together.

I think they like them in my store, but only when you aren't even thinking about making them. As I've often had customers stop me and ask when the pastry chef will make more. But ironically leading up to V Day, when she actually did some for her case, they never really moved at all. Even had one lady get all snooty and say they didn't look all that fresh or something. And I know she did enough of them for our Friday dinners too as the dessert. But yea, I think they sell kind of weird at times. Either they want it right then or during the actual dipping "event" or randomly.

That's great. I think we had maybe 6 or 8 packs left when I stopped in a little after 7 at my store. One of the 12 ct and a few more of the 6 and 4 packs. Mostly looked like the white chocolate ones. But should be interesting to see how much she made this year. Hopefully close-ish to the goal, so she can at least enjoy her vacation coming up.
