i have a job interview coming up at Marianos in a bit for the position of produce clerk. Im just wondering how stressful the interview is, what kind of questions will he asked, etc. Ive heard the interview is basically a formality and its hard to not get the job. Is that true?
the only reason it is a formality is because they know they are supposed to have an interview. but the person who actually knew what to do at the interview moved on. and nobody knew how to train the new hiring manager. so now we just hire anybody so our stores are full of retards and lazy asses
Contrary to what the others have said, it will depend on that store's particular produce department and how demanding the produce manager or back up is. You'll most likely do an interactive interview where the produce department manager will show you around the department and show you how things are done and what you'll be expected to do for the span of 15 minutes. It's very important that you look interested and your body language, demeanor, and energy are all in sync because if the DH picks up on that, they might tell the hiring manager you wouldn't make a good fit for produce. In which that case, they either tell you to come back for a "second interview" or find you another department, but neither is likely if the DH doesn't like you.
But seeing as you're posting this thread, I doubt you will come off as somebody lazy and disinterested at the interview. The co-managers never pick up on body language of new hires and just send them into the fodder, it's usually the DHs who have the final say whether they think you'd be a good fit. I don't know where the above poster works but it's obvious they don't work in an actual store because they absolutely don't do any showing around anywhere.
My interview consisted of what hours are you available? And when can you start? That's it. My entire interview.
My training however, dis consist of watching stupid movies and less than one hour of hands on "training" and then I was on my own.
As a matter of fact I never even got a tour of the store and didn't even know there was a break room until my 2nd week of work.
Uuummm yeah. They don't do that. Whomever the HR person does a very quick interview and basically will hire anyone who can pass the background check . They used to drug test bit in our area they don't anymore because they couldn't find many people that could pass the drug test. I've worked there for almost 7 years and have never seen an applicant shown any department prior to their first day of work. Also they are right due to constantly being purposefully short staffed training is virtually nonexistent. I'm guessing that the person who said the tour is given and a department head will talk to you must be someone from corporate that is just telling you how the bigwigs expect it to happen. What the higher ups say happens or what they expect to happen is not what really happens.
Thanks for all the responses once again. The interview was kind of a joke, definitely no tour, but I ended up getting the job and am starting after the background check comes back (no drug test).
Yup, they recently eliminated the drug test, which I think only lowers are standards. Personally, most of the people that did have positive drugs test should not have been hired for just from the interview. The reason why we cant hire currently is because of pay and the hoops people have to go though to get an interview. Before with the other system, you normally had a steady flow of applicants, even if you interviewed 3 to fill one position. Most of the times, people applied with on paper didn't seem like a good fit and then in person were awesome. Now most people cant find work other places or we are the only place flexible enough with shifts/hours for them.

I hope the job fits your needs. The job will be what you make of it. There will be workers and there will be slackers. There will be awesome days and not so good days.
If you are in school, make that your priority and use this job as a stepping stone.
If you want this to be a career, learn as much as you can.
