With scan bag and go and Kroger edge and click list home delivey..in the next 5 to 10 years will we all be out of a job from automation and everything going online?
Stores/Markets will always be around, I personally have purchased clothing on Amazon and had to return it....people want to touch and feel what they are getting. Grocery Home Delivery will become a big percentage of the market, but people will find overtime they miss the environment/social aspect of it. If anything, companies will band together and form partnerships to alienate only delivery companies. Think of how many new items you didn't know about until you saw them on the shelf !! CPG's (Consumer Packaged Good) companies will at some point retaliate when their products are not being sold/displayed to customers. Also at some points, Amazon and other HUGE companies might also be labeled as Monopolies just like AT&T (original At&t) and be broken up. If you look at the job market now, you have to think about how many jobs will also be eliminated.
At some point people are going to live off the grid and eliminate the big big businesses from all their lives!
I agree. Kroger is changing so fast that it will likely hurt its self in the long run. A lot of the new technology or programs have been tested but will always have bugs because they rush things. Like order evolution, the cps in the service desk, and even Click List. Now Kroger edge and scan bag go will be no different.
CPS? SBG is also eliminating the payment process at SCO, you will be able to pay on your phone.......seems to be your just asking for more Shrink.....

CSP stands for customer service platform is where they combine check free and western union bill pay, receive, send, money orders on one computer. Theis is their second attempt trying to role it out because it failed the first time. They only tested it in a few stores for a week then decided to do the whole division.
Ok, So your in Columbus! I'm guessing its one computer with multiple programs and then all the different supplier printers? I hope it really turns out great, but part of our issue was having too many ways customers could pay their bills too (all with different fees).

I think it's mainly the front end at Kroger stores that is most "in danger" here of losing hours to technology - and from purely a financial point of view, it makes sense for Kroger to try and minimize the impact the front end has on the budget since the front end staffs the most employees overall (even if it doesn't seem that way with all the calls for surge help/bagging help/cart round-ups). Like, if you take the front end's paper schedule and put it side by side with the paper schedule from any other department, the front end's is gonna have more names on it.
You'll still need produce clerks to fill the sales floor. You'll still need grocery clerks to stock shelves. You'll still need deli clerks to slice meat/cheese + prepare hot foods and you'll still need bakery clerks to fill the sales floor. Granted, Kroger will try to cut hours/employees by bringing in more stuff prepackaged, but hey, someone still has to put the stuff out. More and more, everyone will essentially become little more than stockers and "specialized" positions will be phased out as much as possible, but Kroger, like any other grocery store, will always have to employee at least some help.
But yeah, ClickList (both pick up and delivery) Edge, Scan Bag and Go, more self check outs, the primary target here is the front end and reduce the size, and thus the cost, of it. IMO, of course.
Hours will also be reduced in the stocking departments through advancements in casing and more SRP product, better organized palletry etc. However those hours will be in small increments. I'd say if a store is allocated 3000 hours store wide currently, in the 5-10 year time frame you may see that drop to 2500-2700. It won't be huge, but it will be noticeable. Also this helps prepare the company to be better positioned to offer more competitive wages as outside pressure mounts to pay a higher wage. If they can cut hours, those that they keep they'll be able to pay higher wages to and maintain their bottom line.
