Managers dislike union members using the union
Permalink

So the last Few weeks I have been bumping because I get scheduled super late shifts and new hires are being scheduled before me which is not right espicall since Im full time and have been their for 8 years. Management calls me a trouble maker for following the union contract. If I pay 10 a week for a union I want the rules to be followed. Why is this. Why when we follow policy its wrong. Kroger agreed to the terms of the union so it makes the kroger policies too right.

Managers will try and suck the soul right out of you if you let them. We have one that will constantly ask us to stay for 2 or 3 hours after a shift (which will put us at 42 or 43 hours) then the next day tell us we need to cut our overtime.

Bottom line is the union only works if you dont back down. Those managers don't give a flying monkeys uncle what the union contract says...until one of us gets the union involved, lol.

could be just my store but i personally like showing them i am a good employee even when i back-bite from time to time
i find they don't appreciate things i think are overwhelmingly good
but they appreciate things i didn't think of
i've not paid union dues one time haven't used the union and i have been firm and reasonable. i think if you can exploit human relatability if not kindness you can get what you want

Exactly.  The terms sometimes won't be followed, though, if we don't enforce them.

Document management's petty, unprofessional retaliations and report when you have a few instances with dates and details.  Throw them under their own sorry Krogrr bus.

Keep doing the right thing.

Manager here. Been with Kroger 6 years but came from a union job before. I don't dislike unions or the UFCW but kindly do not threaten to file a grievance every time I just ask you to do something. That's not what they're for. Just my 2 cents.

I can agree with this, however, don't threaten to write us up every time you don't like the answer you get because we are following the rules.

I know the union contact front and back and now when something is being violated. But I dont file a grevience every time something is violated such as management stocking shelves or running a register witch they arent allowed to. But as long as they violate our agreement I will continue to get the union involved even if management doesnt like it.
