You think its worth the time and money to prosecute some fat ass who ate 20 bucks worth of candy? Or stole 50 bucks worth of food? Not worth it
.....and it's precisely because prosecuting services have come to that kind of thinking that theft is batsh!t out of control. It's the priciple of you have to spend money in order to make it. .. Law enforcement needs to get back to enforcing laws or this whole country will be completely f u c k e d. For real.

Yup. these ppl will just keep doing it cause they know nothing will happen.
Every store I've been in has prosecuted everyone. But you have to catch people before you can prosecute them, that's the hard part. You have to be 100% certain they're shoplifting because if you stop someone and they have nothing on them it opens the store up to a lawsuit.
My old store prosecuted someone before, i know she ended up getting jail time because she had also shoplifted from the walgreens across the street, and some other stores in the area.
I would say the dollar amount of shoplifting is MUCH higher for customers than it is for employees. That is who Kroger should be focusing on-we are being stolen blind in our store and a nearby store was shot down last year in our district due to the amount of shoplifting by CUSTOMERS in the store

It is and it isn't. Kroger doesn't consider shoplifting different than shrink. Basically their position is if someone steals $1000 a week, that's still better than a clerk causing $1200 in shrink by throwing out too much meat, produce, not rotating stock, etc.

I've seen it happen, too. But only once. One woman was caught steeling, so the cops were called. And while the cop was talking to her at self checkout, another couple was trying to get out the Starbucks exit with a cart overflowing with product; as far as I learned, the guy was sat down and cuffed while his girl drove off.
We need to be able to confront thieves, it's stupid letting them get away with it.

A Kroger employee told me that Kroger will not prosecute anyone who is stealing anything less than 500.00 dollars. Heck, I can do my entire grocery shopping and all I have to do is to be careful enough to fool the employees working there, because if I get caught, they'd just let me go and come back next week and try again.
The ONLY time we persecute is if it's OVER $500.00 and that's ONLY if security gets v off their lazy @as and actuall doors does their job like that are supposed to.
I steal here and there. Wont get caught though I have a nice system going on right now. Even if I did get caught this is a throw away job anyway. Kroger can afford it since they under pay people
Kroger doesn't want to deal with the lawsuit for the little ones. If a regular enough shoplifter they can get prosecuted. Loss prevention is currently investigating 2-4 groups at my store. Loss prevention recently gave the ban to 2 people eating food without paying for it then bitc-hing about a refund.
