Make a request to wear a fictitious name badge. For example, if you don't want your real name revealed because you don't want customer weirdos knowing your first level of identity protection so they can search for you on facebook etc., wear a name tag with a name that isn't your real name. If your name is Jeff, wear a name tag that says Pete, etc. Just make sure you respond to 'Pete' when someone says it.
I'm assuming OP means the "Hi, my name is xxx and this is your bagger xxx" followed by the normal spiel we are supposed to say.
We've been starting that too, but as far as I'm concerned a visible name badge is more than good enough.
So no, I have not bee. Doing the "my name is xxx" spiel.
I hope Kroger isn't going the way of Office Depot of 10 years ago with an ISCE-type program (In Store Customer Experience.) We now have in our store what is called a "Customer Engagement Specilist" who stands at the front of the store and greets all customers sort of like Walmart. We also have an obnoxious security guard that greets all customers entering and leaving the store. WTF?!? I have not heard of a policy in the Local 1996 Atlanta GA area that requires cashiers to say their names.
Customer is always right. Show your appreciation and respect and introduce yourself and the bagger. They are paying your way of life for Pennies on the dollar. VALUE THEM!!!
I found out why they are trying to make us say our names. Apparently alot of Kroger staff (not just our store) have not been wearing name badges. So therefore they are trying to force us to say our names AND the bagger's name as well. But I can see this policy failing because those who don't wear name badges can easily give a fake name to avoid trouble if customers complains.
It's NONE of a customer's business what are names are. We are NOT their friends-were are there to ring them up and get them the hell out of our store!!
