I was wondering what was going on yesterday. All the managers in all the local stores (seattle area) went to an "emergency" meeting and we haven't seen them sense. There's always a plus and minus to this. The good managers as well as many managers that should have been termed long ago will be no more.
Yes, this is company wide and all across the United States with all companies Kroger owns. Different divisions seem to be doing it a little different, although it should all be done the same way. One on one meetings with every manager in the districts are supposed to be taking place with every person receiving their time and place for the interview. Meetings should be done off site at a conference room of a hotel or similar place. They are to arrive no earlier than ten minutes before their scheduled time. They are told then if they are fired (this isn't a layoff regardless of how people are phrasing it), being forced to take retirement, or being told what store they will be reporting to and what their position will be. A folder with every managers name is ready for their meeting. They will learn the contents of the folder. It will either be a severance with a non disclosure agreement you have to sign or a where you will report on the official day of your new assignment. There is armed security at the back entrance of the exit area of the meeting in case of an incident.
The areas doing it correctly have looked at the stores and figured out how to fire people and or retire people without leaving the stores with no management until the day everyone steps into their new roles. People fired or retired are immediately done. The people being let go should fall into a certain criteria (although this doesn't seem to be happening across the different divisions). It has nothing to do with the surveys as some people have stated on the Redditt site. The underperforming and worst managers should be going away. However, that doesn't seem to be happening in all areas. Long term managers are being forced out regardless of their performance. They are simply making too much money based on what they can pay newer managers stepping into the same role.
It will be chaotic for a while.
What is the reason for so much Manager firing? Makes no sense to fire so many managers.
Today was just day one of firings. They have known this was going to happen and who was going to be fired, moved, and "retire" and the stores still need to run. So, the order that people were getting their one on one meetings has been staggered. As of now, meetings are expected to be finished by Thursday evening or Friday morning and people keeping jobs move to new stores on Friday. People fired today will just not be there tomorrow. People fired tomorrow not there, etc. Won't really know the total number until probably Friday or Saturday.
Number of managers in stores is based on sales. Some stores will only have Store Leader and one ASM, some will have two ASM's. Some changes will be good. No more corporate business people showing up whenever they want and doing those stupid constant walks where everyone (managers and employees) just get made feel like their crap. One visit per month (or so they say). They are still trying to figure out the new business model and lot's of info to come but right now overwhelmed with the one on ones.
I always feel bad for the people losing their jobs. Especially these blindsided things and I really feel bad for the people who have to wait for the last day to see if they are still employed. Everyone in management is scared right now.
I think there's going to be a special place in Hell for people in the corporate world who treat their employees like that. From the looks of things, it looks like they are reducing the size of their staff so they can sell the company, possibly to one that isn't union friendly.
They are eliminating positions and weeding out the bad SM's. The ones I'm hearing about should have been gone a long time ago but never late than never.
Current DMs are riding around Atlanta division this week doing the talks to all managers. Know of 6 sms that got let go today in my district. DM was firing in stores that are in his reassigned district for the most part. Assuming he's going to load them up with his coordinator staff... My store is losing an asm. DM, center store, customer 1st, and fresh are what I'm hearing the big district jobs will now be
Just wait until they start doing this at store level too. Drug/GM and Grocery will be merged within 2 years I bet. One Center Store department head and a few additional lead positions. Nutrition lead is being killed off, so if you added in an drug lead and let the stock crew do gm... Drug GM backup becomes a lead job, less pay. Fewer programs, fewer distros, less fat would have been better
Ha, I actually heard this from my CSM that our store manager and comanagers were in some big meeting the other day, or was it today? I don't remember. But I was told one of them was fired.
It's funny how we're fighting against companies like Amazon and Walmart that don't have a union and YET, we have contenders for president in the 2020 race supporting union workers like the GM strikers and calling for more support of unions...Some of those presidential contenders have even joined in the picket lines...
Yes, my friends, companies across the board have become too greedy and with GM, you are now seeing the pushback and frustration come to fruition...Even Walmart is finding out that you ignore your best people at your own peril, which is why it's focusing again on it's most important asset...the workers!
GM workers made quite a bit of money. Look at their profit sharing. Also look at the fact their union is corrupt. their strike will end up costing them their jobs when GM goes under again.
GM workers are far better off than Kroger employees, or at least they were when they were working.
They are eliminating positions and weeding out the bad SM's. The ones I'm hearing about should have been gone a long time ago but never late than never.

I went shopping today and sadly the ******* manager I had been rooting for to get fired was still there acting like nothing was wrong. I was really hoping he'd be gone by the time my vacation is over. Not sure if anyone else is fired. Our store is number 1 in sales for its district so I don't think anyone is going anywhere in our store.
I'm waiting for the corporate firings so then maybe we'll get less stupid ideas, less hoops to jump through, less paperwork. so then maybe we'll be able to get done the stuff they don't give us enough hours for. oh yea we're doing great on our system zero's report we're under 150 meanwhile the stores actual holes on shelf around 200 because backstock, deadstock not getting run like it should. maybe possibly we could cut 40 hours from our department to hire another coordinator to come in with their arms crossed and tell us all the things that needs to be done maybe that would fix things.
dear corporate please come get your toilet paper off our walls and go wipe your ass's with and learn to run a company
Wonder if the news media is what made them cut back on the firings. They were supposed to go through Friday and suddenly (in our area) no one is getting called in for one on one meetings.
My guess would be that not all managers are getting the same amount of severance. Especially for some of the ASM's who haven't been with the company that long. Maybe if you fall into certain demographics you might get more for same amount of years as someone in a different demographic.
Does anyone have any clue as to how many managers are being fired? Some pretty big numbers are being thrown about in the news media and some areas seem to be losing more than others. Anyone from West Virginia on here? Just wondering if it's true that some stores have had all managers fired.
All I can say is it is confusing as hell right now in Mid Atlantic. Managers who kept jobs have to report to new stores tomorrow. Probably won't know until tomorrow exactly who got fired, retired, etc.
Like the Cleveland Browns fans stealing memorabilia when the team announced their move to Baltimore, has there been any workers stealing Kroger signs etc. to decorate their basement walls where they play foosball/table tennis/pool?
Curious to know if anyone plans to steal a Kroger sign and paste it on your wall next to your NFL pictures?
