You probably need to talk to your union rep and the manager. Explain to them that you've already made plans and will not be in town. it's non-negotiable, you were not consulted, and it was already approved.

So other then putting your vacation into Escheduler there was not a formal process of submitting Vacation requests?

I had discussed it with the store manager at the time as I always do. They make you put your vacation in and have always said that you either put it in or they will. It's quite ridiculous honestly but this is how it's been done for years.
If your vacation was already approved by management then you could try and take those dates anyway and just claim you "didnt see the changes" and hop eww you dont get in trouble. That's what I did one time and took my originally approved vacation. When I got back I was grilled on it and I told them i "didnt see the change not approve it." They dropped it that one time. But each management is different. Some may say ok...our mistake, or they may say see you at work during xxx. Best solution, talk to management

Once its approved, I believe if they want to change it, it MUST be done BEFORE it is finalized. And that if it is done AFTER finalization, they MUST ask for YOUR APPROVAL FIRST.

Check your contract. Our contract specifically states that vacations may be taken 52 weeks out of the year. They can limit how many people in the store can go though during any given week, even if that means just one person. Of course if they try to give it to someone with less senioirity than you, you can always file a grievance.

Yep. If it were blacked out, then they should have let the person know way beforehand. All they can do now is strongly urge the person to change their vacation. If they choose not to, Kroger is screwed technically. But then again, Kroger will manage to use a loophole to get around it.

I worked on Thanksgiving for two years when I was first hired. I hated it because it was boring and slow in the deli. All we did all day was hand out boxed meals and there weren't a lot of them - yet management was freaking out and didn't accept anyone's request off. After that I marked Thursday as unavailable all year long so I'd never have to work a Thanksgiving again.

Major holidays cannot be blacked out completely. Management is violating the terms of the contract if they do.
If management approved it, then it's their loss. They should have said No, to the vacation if it were an issue. Hopefully, OP got proof of the approval before it was switched without consent. Being as they spoke to management already, they cant use the "I didnt know it was switched because nobody informed or asked if it was ok to do so."
Just use your religious freedom and say i don't celebrate either of these days so there not holidays to me, lol.

I thought about it and if you did get it approved at the first of the year then they should have left it alone. But as far as religious holidays some people use Sunday and say I cannot work I go to Church. I am also a Christian and I had to work on Sunday's it is retail you should be willing to work maybe not every Sunday but if they would work you around Church I have seen some people come in and work until 9 or 10 am and Some churches have service at 8 am or later so Sunday and Church is rally not a excuse to not work.

No worries. You do have a point in most cases but I try to follow the rules, I fully understand I'm in retail. I do request other days off and you win some you loose some. My whole complaint with this is that it was approved at the beginning of the year. My contract does state that I can take any of 52 weeks out of the year. I brought this up to the union rep and they're supposed to speak with my store manager about it. I am always the last to turn my vacation in and for the past 12 years I've always requested those 2 weeks and I've always been the only one oddly enough. If they would let me go for days I would just get the day of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. As for Christmas, I'd just get the 24th but they won't let me schedule days which makes no sense to me. It won't matter for long though, I found another opportunity at another store that isn't so short staffed. The current store I'm in cannot keep people, the store manager is very young.
I forgot to add that I don't like lying about religious freedom things especially if I don't go to church. We have several people in my store that do not work weekends at all because they say they're in church Saturday and Sunday. Isn't fair but doesn't mean I'm going to play the system.

I am so Happy I am out of Kroger. I am off for sure going to start working on Computers soon and be my own boss. Building them also people buy parts bring parts to me I build and charge a price.
All this new manager has to do is give the remaining hours to the ones there that want more hours or if not, give to the newer employees that want hours.
