So my union contract says for part timers such as myself we have to have 24 hours  notice of any shift changes if the schedule has already been posted. I'm over night 10-6 and was told last Monday night we would have to come in at 7...we werent told until 11 pmish....that's a violation by my reading of the contract. Then this past Friday at around the same time of night I was told I would have to work Saturday night which is my usual night off , agian..less than 24 hours notice. I filed a complaint with my union, you think they'll actually do anything? I'll be happy even if they get them to stop making these last minute changes in my shift, it's getting really old  and it happens pretty frequently at store.

Does your contract actually say 24 hours or like mine does which is, "to be notified the day prior to the change taking place."  Im in the atlanta division.  So technically they were ion the right because it was the day prior.

The sounds like a lousy contract.  How can you plan anything on your days off knowing they could change your schedule at any time?  My contract says that any changes to the schedule after it's posted must be mutually agreed upon by both the employer and the employee.  That means if they want to change your schedule, they can't do it without your permission.  If you want to change your schedule, you have to get mangement's permission.

 Remember 2 week scheduling was to allow for a "Work-Life" balance.  Request a day off 2-3 weeks before the schedules come out, when you have no idea what will come up in 1-2 weeks.  How about a basic set schedule for everyone? Yes, 1-3 newer people might get a schedule that changes, but it allows the majority to always know their set schedule.

 The mutually agreed upon portion is just full-timers.  part-timers can be changed up to the day prior to the change.

You are correct. Management must inform you 48 hrs in advance. The reverence will at least make them stop. My second location did that bull sh*it. The manager penciled in hours and never told me. I checked esced and the front end schedule and found out she was penciling shifts on the schedule in the manager office. Bull Sh*t like I knew to check that. I called the union rep and he set them straight.

The more I read about new contracts, the more I'm glad I started working when I did.  I get 6 weeks vacation.  As of seven years ago, the maximum amount of vacations was reduced to five for anyone hired after a certain date.  I also get three days off during a holiday week and get eight hours holiday pay.  So if I work over 32 hours, I get overtime.  Newer employees still get holiday pay, but it doesn't count as part of their hours for the week.  They only get overtime if they work over 40 hours.  Speaking of overtime, I get overtime if I work over 40 hours for the week or over 8 hours in a single day.  So if I work 9 hours one day but my total hours for the week is less than 40, I will still be paid overtime for that one hour.  Newer employees only get overtime if their total hours for the week is over 40.  

I'm also glad I'm not under the real old contract.  Under that contract the work week is Monday thru Saturday with one day off.  Your other off day was Sunday when the store was closed.  When stores started opening on Sundays they had to start scheduling people on a rotating basis and pay them time and a half.  Those people who were working then and are still working now get paid time and a half on Sundays and holidays regardless of how many hours they work the rest of the week.   Even if they just work that one day, they still get paid time and a half.  Personally I'd rather have the extra day off than the extra pay, but that's just me.

 Sounds like you didnt give ample notice of your off times. Only violation committed was you not going to work when scheduled. You should probably apologize and ask what you can do to rectify the problem.

The Union works for Management per the secret agreement between kroger CEO Rodney McMullen and UFCW INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Marc Perrone.  Marc Perrone is intimidated by Management.  We own the Union and We own You Pathetic Impoverished Worms.  I dare You to show this to Your Union Representatives,  they won't confront us,  they won't do anything about what I said.
