In the Atlanta Division, stores close at 7pm. The main reason is because in the union contract, anyone that works after 7pm on Christmas Eve or on Christmas day get Double pay. I'm sure if that wasn't in the contract, Kroger would be open on Christmas.
Stores close at 5:00 PM Christmas Eve and no one shall be required to work past 5:30 PM unless there's some idiot who won't leave. I've never heard of that happening though. From what I've heard, the managers go around herding customers to the checkout lanes. In the event that a major competitor is staying open later, the store will close at 6:00 PM and everyone must be out by 6:30 PM.
Kroger will be open on Christmas within a few years, if only for a few hours.
All stores do security checks on Christmas And theres always customers coming up and asking if were open. If 2,000 stores did $15,000 that day thats an extra $30,000,000 that Kroger gets.
At my store last year, it was something retarded like 8:00 or 9:00 pm.
After 6:00 or 7:00 pm, it was only weirdos, homeless, and local Section 8 trash that came into the store. They FLOCKED into the store. It was an absolutely bizarre experience. Every single customer (male and female, mostly male but the women made up for it) was a shifty looking dirty creep with no less than one backpack.
The store? Busy. Curiously busy. Checkout lanes and SCO? Empty. Completely goddamn empty. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
We didn't actually make a single dollar after 6:00 or 7:00 pm, I'm convinced. I mean, it's not like there were textbooks in those multiple backpacks.
Uplift every Kroji spirit or whatever it is this week. If I weren't long dead inside, I'd be happy they've finally left the "friendly" part out.
As a wise philosopher once said, "Fresh, fresh, gotta be fresh." Neurolinguistic programming lol
We have a cart area that has entrances into two places, one entrance on the left leads to the deli and bakery area, and the entrance on the right leads to the cash registers. We had a gate that closed the left entrance and a manager was closing it around 5:45 on Christmas Eve. A customer decided to try and cram herself between the gate and the wall before he could shut it completely and she was yelling "no! I still need to shop! I have things I need to buy! Please!" It was a huge scene. Meanwhile the right entrance was still open and she could have just walked through it like other customers were.
He should have gently pushed her back out (without hurting her of course) and directed her towards the one still open. We usually shut and block the left entrance about that time so the customers use the right side to enter and leave. No problems there. What causes problems is that when a customer tries without success to force the locked doors open. When we ignore the wailing pleading customer, they turn psycho-b1tch super-sayan crazy. It's hilarious.

I think some customers to this on purpose. Should have let her shop then when she came up front there would be no cashiers. If she was still in the store about 6:10 pm call the police. Or just have the police there when you close.
6pm we are closed. 5:45 we start locking the store down and management hovers up front herding people in and out our front end exit door and keeping a count of them, the lobby is secured and locked at 5:55 (both interior and exterior doors, so when we get told to clear lot and fill lobby with everything at 5:30, you best bust ass fast beforehand, cause once lobby is locked, that's it) and we block them off from that entrance / exit with a bench as a barrier, meanwhile we UCs outside get to remind custys who pull in that we have X minutes til we are closed and locked. Once 6PM goes, all customers are herded out and we UCs do lot sweeps reminding customers who are pulling in we are closed and wishing them a merry christmas (one of the most fun thing i enjoy telling people honestly, sorry we are closed, come back on the 26th though if you'd like) while we keep gathering carts and pushing them to the wall of the building til about 6:15 which generally lot is pretty much clear at that point, afterwards we count em and give that count to management. We are able to clock out and hurry up finish buying whatever we need to before 6:30 when the last 3 SCOs are shut down n pulled for auditing and secured to the safe, cash office is locked and safe alarm is armed, then store is swept to be sure no one is hiding, doors are locked and building alarm is fully activated with MOD being the last out to lock up around 6:30 - 6:45, only to have to have a manager come back around 11 for a store check.
Was absolutely hilarious though trying to hold back my laughter after watching a customer walk to the lobby doors and me try to call out to him that we are closed, poor guy got instantly rejected by the door, was bounced back and fell into the snow. I almost fell over laughing while pushing a train when i seen that.
