I work as a courtesy/utility clerk and fe seems to ALWAYS call us off our sweeps to go to the front end for sacking. Its HIGHLY annoying because lately we have been getting "dinged" on our sweeps not getting logged, or falsifying the log. (Punching in without inspecting the floors first.) We let them know over the voycall that xxx is on sweeps. And they STILL call us which leads us to believe they don't care or are INCREDIBLY STUPID. if we ignore them they go apesh*t and complain. I think we need to reinstate the 'Utility Clerks/Courtesy Clerks must NOT be called up front for ANY reason while they are on sweeps. When we had that, we did GREAT on our sweeps. Why was it ever stopped anyway
Wow! Really?!? ?! I work front end and there is a REASON as to why we call you up front. As a checker we cannot stop scanning items to do a price check. To get liquor, baby formula, ciggarettes, prophellatics, etc. Nor can we go we go check to see if We have any specific product in back not on the shelf, or do carryouts. That's where YOU come in. A customer CANNOT and WILL NOT be expected to get their own items if it can be prevented. Plus the aforementioned are always under lock and key. So who gets them...YOU. I understand sweeps are imp.ortant but it doesnt take long to do a sweep of the store with a broom. Bathrooms can be cleaned in. Between customers or unless there is a HUGE mess

I am so glad I do not have to deal with the BS anymore.

I do understand what you are saying. But when Courtesy And Utility Clerks sign a paper about sweeps they are agreeing to complete the sweep. If you are logged in on the clock doing a sweep and someone falls and then you are called to court Kroger could pull the camera video and see if you were sweeping. They will not give a damn if you were called to bag. Some ******* prick will try to get that clerk fired. As a utility clerk I hardly ever bagged or went and got carts off the lot I stayed busy doing the duties utility clerk does. A few times I worked at night and I did stay up front and bag. I walked away one night and a supervisor asked where I was going. I gave him a serious look and said I am going to the restroom. He told me I had to ask and I said no I don't I am a grown man I do not have to ask if I can go to the restroom. I even told the Manager and the Manager said I did not have to.
This sounds like EXACTLY what happens in our store. We are getting nailed on sweeps-we are horribly understaffed. Mgt goes bat s*** crazy if a customer bags their own groceries. Honestly it really isn't a big deal to the majority of our customers. I told our FES one time that Kroger can't have it both ways-she agreed with me but she is stuck in the middle as she is only a floor supervisor. I wonder if it is like this in other stores.

ALL FAKE NEWS!! hi I say I quit but I still come here any way cause well... I didnt.
At our store when we look at our call sheets to see what our courtesy clerks/utility clerks are doing BEFORE we call them. That way if they are on a sweep we don't call them because we KNOW they WILL NOT come up so we basically give up and let them do their sweep. Except one guy. He absolutely WILL NOT bag of he can prevent it. He will call a UC or CC to bag EVEN IF THEY ARE ON A SWEEP. They NEVER come up and after 3 times of calling, he starts bagging.
Robots don't suffer. When 'ai' gets good enough so robots can be frustrated, angry, afraid or hopeless, that will be the end of all Kroger floor jobs. Hopefully Kroger will go away before that happens.
