Would you be less impatient if you shopped in a store that had only four checklanes with all four checklanes would be open all the time than in a store that had 20 checklanes and only four of them open?
I cashier and the answer is no. Kroger has trained customers to have a 30 second wait or less and expect to get their sh**it and get out as fast as they can. Kroger trained customers for this then reduced staff to skeleton crew. People are @$$ holes because they're now impatient little bas*ta*rds.
I also work as a cashier, and I was told by the Assistant Customer Service Manager that in addition to getting the customers through checkout as quickly as possible, the cashiers also have to be more engaging according to Corporate Headquarters.
So, now we also have to recite this spiel..
Hi, how are you?
Do you have your Kroger card?
Did you find everything you wanted today?
Paper or plastic?
Thank you, have a nice day and so on
He wants the cashiers to do all of this due to secret shoppers so that our location gets a perfect score from the secret shopper.
So, is it really possible to be more engaging with the customers while getting the customers through checkout as quickly as possible?
Will that spiel make our customers and secret shoppers happy and want to continue shopping at Kroger, and will it allow Kroger to get perfect scores from the secret shoppers and our customers?

If you are capable of being a checker for this company you can do something else. Something better. Those registers will likely stay vacant. Check stands will be available if needed. LOL.
