There are some rumors going around about more management changes after New Years. I know that a lot of the store managers are going to get moved around, but there are also some rumors that Kroger might be trying to eliminate all of the co-manager positions. Has anyone heard anything like that?
Haven't heard about eliminating ASM positions totally but did hear about reducing number in stores again. Most stores with one SM and one ASM. No idea how that would work.
they want the deparment heads to do more manager jobs and be the mod (manager on duty) even though they are union where I'm at
Well, my the dept heads at my store say, they want them to be mod or do more manager type jobs then pay them more. More responsibilities=more pay. If not, then no; why should they take on more.
Has anyone heard about department heads being demoted also? Long term employees who are making higher salaries being demoted to clerk (pay cut), etc. and being replaced by people at a much lower salary.

Does this mean some stores closing? That is not good bad choice for Kroger. \\

Some department heads do not want the MOD job. I think it is is just silly what is the difference? Some department heads don't do a good job nothing gets done when they close.

Not possible to run a store with no asms when SM are already falling behind due to a lack of bodies in the stores. Stores are already failing due to skeleton crews.
It's funny. I have done lots of MOD shifts and I make sure to get around to the depts to make sure they look good. I've trained I don't know how many produce closers what to look at, how to condition, because their dept heads don't care. I look at beer, I look at eggs, I look at milk. I'll be in the depts walking around instead of sitting upstairs on my phone or watching sports like half the ASMs I've known. I don't spend as much time on GM or grocery as I do the fresh depts. The store always looks better when I close. I've gotten comments about it. But damn it they're paying only an extra 50 cents and taking me out of my dept.
Yes, more managers will be fired and hours for in store labor will be cut even more. More long term Kroger salaried people will be let go at all levels. More higher level district people "retiring" or fired and positions not eliminated replaced by outside (non Kroger) people. It's just going to keep getting worse and worse people.
Have other Divisions had a mass exodus of ASM over the last few months, since the re-org? While I'm sure other layoffs might be coming, I have a feeling the stores around here will not eliminate any ASM, since everyone is jumping ship.
Another Cincy d1 store manager retired today on a very sudden notice... mine is still here for now but i'm still hearing he's either retiring or "stepping down.

Previously, they were not allowing Store Managers to step down. I'm thinking all the long term Store Manager still left will "retire" if they have their time in.....
It's already happening, although in a stealthy manner. You will notice more and more "retirements" of long term people.
Yup - my spouse was one of them. What they are doing to some is setting fully staffed store expectations that can't be met with skeleton crews - and trying to force them to resign due to the stress and pressure. If they do another big, open "restructure" it might spook off both employees they want to keep and investors..

Have they not been doing this already? I've been feeling that for years.
Kroger has had staffing issues for a while and it's getting worse because they just don't have an environment that employees want to be a part of (Lower wages, abusive leadership, work/life balance, poor training etc) but now it's even worse in some areas and SM are being told perfection or else.. (these SM are working 7 days a week most of the time) basically.. Well, the ones they want to get rid of (typically the higher paid 6 figure ones) who leadership might also have some superficial dislike of - they are pushing out with unmeetable goals. So if your told "perfection" or else and they put you on a written program that could include termination - your leaving, one way or the other..
A retired executive posted at lay-off.com and is saying big cuts to GO in 2020 - around October.
Can you post a link to this? BTW, did you mean thelayoff.com/kroger ?
"I was an executive that reported to the senior level executives (Rodney, Mike Donnelly and Chris Hjelm).
I worked for the company for 40 years before retiring a couple years ago. These guys are jokes and they DONT care about people and layoffs. Rodney reminds me of that kid in high school that wanted to be part of the cool crowd but could never break into it the in crowd. Cant tell you how many meetings I was in and he fell asleep. Mike Donnelly had the attention span of a 2nd grader. Don Becker is turning over in his grave seeing how these guys treat people.
Sukanya Madlinger was the best top executive that I have worked for and she was run out of GO... Shes the only one that knew what really goes on at store level and the everyday decision makers in merchandising. Sell your stock and get a new job. Things are only going to get worse. Big cuts are coming to GO in October of 2020. It was part of the plan that I saw before I retired. Sell your stock and get a new job..".

It was a complete shock when Sukanya left, she had 10-15 years before retirement. From how it was announced, everyone knew the "higher up" didn't like her push back and she was "retired". While I do not know all the Exec. back ground, how many actually spend years in the stores? Sukanya was hired as a Co-Manager and actually worked in the stores. How long did Rodney actually "work" in the stores ? They always highlight he stocked groceries in College, but was it stocking for a few hours a week then to a office job after college?
Dillon, Sukanya, Becker, Marnette always thought about customers, associates and could related to each group. When was the last time you saw an Exec. in a store, not picking it apart?

"When was the last time you saw an Exec. in a store, not picking it apart? " which takes like 0 talent.. (We did have one in D1 Nashville that I liked, but surprise, surprise they are on "Special assignment" and have been replaced.. I don't think the ppl at the top care that much because they have made enough money to live on for the rest of their lives - so that incentive is gone.. Once you have enough money something else has to motivate you - the most noble motivation is "I have many ppl and their families depending on the decisions I make".. (Is anyone at the top really thinking that way??) There is not as much concern if stores close, or the company ultimately fails when your set for life financially.
We are constantly saying in Cincy D1 that it went downhill after the Madlingers were forced out. They cared. You could tell. None of these new people, from the top down to the coordinators, give a crap about us.

Pres, VP's, DM's, Coordinators are not there to train, develop, they are only there to drive company mandates and take credit for anything "good". While they say everything can be accomplished, let seem them do the tasks for 3 weeks.
It tells a lot about a company that doesn't have a talent pool to promote from within. With 450k people your kidding me if someone isn't talented enough to move into any position that opens up. How many Division Presidents have been from outside the company? If someone from the outside is hired in as a VP-Special Assignment, its really a Division President in waiting. In reality which level of the organization is "people focused", HR doesn't even really have a "Talent Development" program, even with HR people having the title, a VIDEO or ACT isn't personal development.

I loved it when the self righteous complaining coordinator had to take the store I resigned from. That person was terrified.. because they know the truth that they deny when a SM brings up the staffing issues- you can't run these stores up to their ridicules standards while they gut the stores to skeletons.
Do any other Divisions/Stores have Overnight ASM's? (Cincy/Dayton has them).
I worked at one store that had a co manager overnight.
I helped at another store that had a salaried manager overnight but I don't think he was a co manager. I am not sure what his title was. He was running stock with the rest of us.

I saw they posted the email for more 3rd shift ASM positions available. What the heck do they actually DO during 3rd shift? Why would anyone take that position? Won't they be first to go when layoffs happen?
Our co manager was such a huge problem they had to give him his own store. We have one top on site and the rest what they call front end so top person does not have to work 12/7 or whatever. Still loads of maniacs over the top guy, lying in wait.
