Question helping another store
Permalink

I've been asked to go to another store (two hours away) to help for a "President" visit. Someone from business unit calling around to stores asking for bodies. I don't want to go. Do I have to say yes? I've helped before but I'm tired of these dog and pony shows. I'm also tired of my department getting behind because if someone goes then we don't have the people to do the job in our store. Will anything happen if I say no? Also, why don't I get some kind of gas money when I have went?

It's supposed to be volunteer basis.  So, there should not be any punishment for not going.  Department managers are more likely to go.  Clerks can't be forced to go.  I go for the overtime.

My division pays 50 cents a mile(distance from your store to the other store) for travel paid by the store you are helping at.  I am guessing that 2 hours is about 80 miles.  Round trip is 160 miles.  That would pay $80(corrected with help from Colorado kat)  from the service desk.  Plenty of gas money!  (This is what Kroger has turned my brain into or I am just getting old...  I used to be able to solve complicated calculus problems with ease and accuracy.  Now, I can't even do simple multiplication.)

Ask your CSM if you get paid for mileage to work at another store.  If yes, you just fill out a piece of paper at the other stores' service desk, have a store manager sign off on it and they pay you in cash.

If you refuse they might target you.  These fake dog and pony shows - these presidents/executives  just cant be this stupid.. They must know its a total fraud and just want to be lied to I guess.. since they really cant fix the understaffing issues that have stores generally looking bad.

If you get that kind of gas money, its worth the drive, plus the OT.

You are not forced to go.

It would be $80.00 travel pay

160 miles x .50 + $80.00

Remember, travel would be worked related, so ON THE CLOCK (Mileage is only for the gas/wear and tare on your car).  Its one thing is its a 10 mins drive, 2 Hours its ON THE CLOCK or a NO GO.

The mileage I think is based on IRS guidelines-not sure what the current amount per mile is

You don't have to say yes to assisting another store. You can write off the distance on your taxes. This whole company is a dog and pony show for the uppers. If they really knew what it was like at the stores then they'd be reading these forms and realize it's a sh-i-t show.

They are always testing and it can cost you later.  You never know how bad it will get.  Sounds like we need a new job.  No they won't pay for your gas.  If you find a way to force them that will cost you for sure.

If they wont pay for gas, keep any spare change you find. Just be very careful if you collect it from the change thing. Someone is ALWAYS watching. That's what I did when they refused to pay for my gas going out if my way. So I just collected all the change left behind by customers; I was just very, very, careful in do in doing so.

Not stealing: just collecting what is owed.
