It's been happening to people in our store. It's happened to two people that I know of so far - one guy wanted to move 2 hours away and put in a request to transfer to the store next to his house. That store was okay with it, but our store manager tried to block it. Then a girl in my department wanted to transfer to a store that was a little closer to her to save time on commute and because our store was cutting her hours. The manager again tried to block her and she went to the union to complain. Does anyone have issues like this at their store? I'm thinking of transferring to another Kroger soon and it would be annoying to get blocked.
Is your store understaffed? Maybe the manager doesnt want to hire replacements because it costs to train them and it would cut into management's un-necessary bonus?
Write ups also can and will f*ck up ANY chance of transfer for at least 6 months.
The fact that the store is understaffed shouldn't even enter into it. Most stores ARE understaffed especially in my area. It's not your responsibility to hire people so you should have to take the blame for the situation as it is
If the store is understaffed or your a good worker, STR Managers will always try to block the transfer. Instead of just blindsiding your Manager, always butter them up and always say something that make them look heartless if they then block it.
Have any of you actually gone to the store you're trying to transfer to and talked to their management about the transfer? Every time I've transferred (I'm at my fourth store now), the store wasn't in any hurry to let me go. A week or two goes by with no update, so I go to the prospective store and they say they haven't heard anything. After that, new store's management calls old store's management and things actually get moving pretty quickly.
I'm actually in the process of a transfer now. My store is telling me that I have to have a replacement first. My coordinator says she's working on it. I've been in contact multiple times with the store manager of the store i'm trying to transfer to, to ensure that the position will still be there for me. It's a time consuming process and my store is insisting they "aren't trying to hold me back" but i definitely get the impression that the squeaky wheel gets the grease so i will keep bringing it up every day until i get answers.

Your fourth store in how many years of service? If it's 20 years or more, then fine. However, if you've transfered that many times in a short timeframe, then it sends up a red flag.
I was getting blocked because they were short staffed. I went to the store and the manager filled out the transfer papers right there and then. Left a week later. Union can either be helpful or drag their feet and do squat. I called the union.

They legally cannot block you if you are moving out of town. I am not sure about if you want to move to another store in the same town because it's closer.

I would say look "B" I cannot help it you are too lazy to hire a replacement and train them.

My fourth store in about 10.5 years. First store lasted about six years and then I moved to a neighboring city so it made sense to transfer, second store about three but then my hours were cut when I couldn't afford it, third store only about 10 months because it was unanimously accepted that the store manager is one of the greatest *******s to walk this planet.
