at my store they feel pretty certain another round of cuts is coming. it all rolls down hill. in my store no one with any measure of authority from a supervisor to dept heads to store management feels like their safe in their positions no matter what successes they can point to.
ever since Bruce Lucia retired in ATL division, we've been all about metrics to the point they are stressing associates out to run their departments like a prison. it isn't fun any more. we expect to be yelled at by store management or by coordinators because they don't care if you have legit reason an item isn't on the shelf or front end missed quevision or sweeps.
accountability is all well and good but it shouldn't make people hate to goto work or hate checking their phones because they fear it's work.
I once made the mistake of yelling back at a deli coordinator when he popped off attitude at me ridiculing me in front of customers. Turns out he could have had me written up. I asked how could that be if hes deli and not technically management and I was told he is from corporate and that it was "ballsy but very foolish" to yell back.
Idgaff. I wasnt even working in that dept so I felt him yelling and ridiculing was out of bounds.
My FES has me doing third shift on first shift. I have to clean under aisle shelving during the "slow time" in the first few hours.... Except they also want the parking lot clear of trash from the cans(16 of them) pavement, and sidewalks. Not to mention we are a Marketplace and it's never slow. I found miracle whip from 2018 the other day, idkwtf
We are also low on baggers and cleaners, wonder why......

I think the lack of communication on why these cuts are happening in the first place is why anyone in a position of even a little 'power' would be worried and stressing perfection on their subordinates. They'll think performance matters (to a basic extent, I don't think it does), when the cuts were mainly targeting people with seniority, on older contracts who had better pay and benefits. From what I was told, the company is on a three-year mission to cut costs wherever possible to save up money for some new technology they're bringing into the stores. The number I heard was $38 million, which sounds low for such a large company, but also high for that to be a per-store figure. Correct me if my information's bad.
The largest expense the company has is labor, just cutting 10 hours a week from each store over 2800 stores a year, is a savings of $20M. Remember wages increase slightly year to year, but prices stay largely the same, so the only thing to do it "streamline" job tasks (lowering hours). ELMS is a broken tool, all the supplemental task original in ELMS were eliminated and most tasks grouped together. ELMS used to actually forecast additional hours for breaks and fatigue. Now the only thing left is to "hold people accountable", which means eliminate all your associates because the expectations are unattainable.
