"We'll reduce hours amid the virus to reduce spread."
"If we could call in sick without hassle and get sick pay, especially if we think we have the virus, that would help a lot"

"Lol no"

what kinda dumbass logic is that?  Everyone would call in sick.  Kroger like any other business is there to make money, moron.  If they let you run things, there'd be nobody to do the work and the store would go under.  Stay in school

The people are here to make money as well. If no one works, they also don't have a job. Moreover, would you rather a COVID person come to work, sneezing on your produce? your bread? paid sick leave is something plenty of businesses outside the US have and they live just as well if not better than we do. I'm not saying people can infinitely not come and still get paid. I'm saying if you want to prevent the spread of a virus, you have to allow people who have it the ability to take a few days off without worrying about the paycheck.
Moreover, it isn't just you that it's a problem for. The people most at risk are elderly, Immuno-compromised, and children. All of these people come into a service industry at some point and to say that it's "moronic" to allow the sick to stay away from the populous is not unreasonable.

some stores will give you an advance on your check.  Just work extra hours next week.  Protip:  find a better job that allows you actual paid time off and pays you enough so that you don't get your water shut off from missing a day of work.

Kroger pays just enough to keep you there.

oh and if you think you have corona, go to the doctor before or after you get off work.  It's not like you work 24 hours straight.  If he gives you the all clear, get your ass back to work.

You are devaluing the very people who's services you rely on every day. By your methods of "get a better job" you are saying that there shouldn't be cashiers, service desk people, pickup, or really anyone in the service industry. To say "get a better job" is to say that you don't mind if that industry doesn't exist, because if everyone gets a better job, there are no cashiers, no stockers, no maintenance. Service workers deserve the same rights to life that anyone else does.

not at all.  Some people can afford to work there (i.e. they have a spouse or live at home with mommy).  If you're a grown single adult, you should probably set your sights higher.  I'm just saying.  I called in sick last week and got paid for it---but I was actually sick

Again, it doesn't matter if you have a positive or negative test. If a person can't afford to miss the work, they will still go into work and contaminate all of the products you buy. The produce, the boxes, the cans, tp, everything. If people can't take time off, everyone is worse off for it.

How long have you been working there? because the most recent contracts don't allow sick pay until you have missed 3 days (unpaid) then might pay you for some time after that depending on how much time you have accrued and there are still restrictions to what can and can not be approved for sick pay.

Health is a floor, not a ceiling.

You are only as healthy as the sickest person you came.in contact with.

Saying someone doesn't deserve medical care cause they arnt paid enough hurts you in the long run.

If you disagree it's out of spite and anger with no argument behind it.

there is no paid sick leave in Local 1996 you might be able to use personal days or vacation time if they let you but you have to have those options available based on years worked

Eh, the warehouse doesn't have **** and the customers are ****ing nuts.

Why not use a convenient excuse to cut hours and close early?

Besides, I'm in a "right to work" state so the union doesn't even pick up the phone.  It's goddamn ridiculous.  Management at my store writes people up regardless of doctor's notes, so it's not like it matters.

I've worked through the flu at least a few times.  Coronavirus ain't any worse (unless you're old, but I really hate the elderly so it works out).  I almost wish I could catch it.

You all talk about sick leave as if the government can't MAKE that happen at some point and OFFER it, despite what individual companies may try to do or not do...Now, some companies COULD do the right thing and get out ahead of this and offer the paid sick leave, which would really help things...It would be unprecedented...Either that, or they may be forced to if this thing doesn't abate in the near term...Yeah, people CAN work through the flu...They're fine and they can then get the flu shot to try and keep it away...But 1. the flu shot isn't always 100% effective and 2. this novel coronavirus doesn't have a surefire cure, at least not yet...They are working on it, but it's gonna take some time...What CAN be done and what SHOULD be done are two different things!

In the meantime, I suggest that everyone be EXTRA, EXTRA CAREFUL out there! This is NOTHING to play with!

Just so you know, more Americans work in the service industry than in ANY OTHER INDUSTRY...The #1 job in America is a retail salesperson (4.48 million workers), followed by #2. 3.34 million cashiers and #3. 3.02 million food prep workers and serving staff...Registered nurses, customer service reps and waiters and waitresses were also in the Top 10...This country is primarily made up of people in the service sector like us...And all of these people are on the front lines during this crisis SERVING people...Say what you want, but the service sector right now is where the jobs are, Kroger is hiring at many of it's locations during this trying time (They HAVE to just to keep the shelves stocked!) and if it comes down to it, I heard that the grocery stores and hospitals may be the only places left open in the end...Everyone else is going to have to stay home!

All I know is that I feel for anyone working in the service sector at this time...We may be called "heroes" by some, but at what price will we ultimately pay for that?

The "Just kill it!" cliche in the abortion industry could apply to the service industry workers too.  Logically there's no difference between a service worker and child still in the womb.

This is what happens when secular socialistic Democrat philosophies get adopted.

Like I said once before, I do not respect the opinions of atheistic hourly workers.  You vote for this s-h-i-t you get it turned on you.
