Here in the Local 1996 Atlanta GA are we will be open from 8-5. We were talking today about how this is the FIRST time Kroger in this area has closed early for a holiday!
Kroger radio announcement 1: "There's a deadly virus going around, so to limit the spread, maintain social distancing and avoid mass gatherings."
Store manager reads from his corporate email over the intercom: "I appr-. Apprek-. Huh, not familiar with that word... ... Oh, APPRECIATE! That's it. I APPRECIATE all your hard work. Thanks, team. I'm going to go back to sipping my coffee, touching up displays, and enjoying the soothing feeling of your words flowing in one ear and out the other whenever you try to talk to me as I reply with the stock corporate answers I've been programmed to offer."
Alert on phone: "State governor has extended his lax stay at home order another couple weeks."
Kroger radio announcement 2: "For the first time in this company's history, we're closing early on Easter so our associates can spend time in personal contact with their family and friends. Because we appreciate them. It's totally not for appearances, as if we feel we have to in these times to keep our associates away from the potentially sick hordes of customers, or anything like that. Hehe."
Grocery manager walks up to you: "Store manager got mad about yesterday. Before you leave in the morning after your twelve-hour overnight shift, make sure to stay and face the shelves as customers are ravaging them and ditching product in places where they don't belong for you to come back tonight and put them away or scan them out as damaged. You've got time, on top of your double load."
